Well...it appears that this yank just might be headed south in the next few weeks. The bossman isn't telling me much yet, but all I know is that we've got a medium size tunnel job (around $300,000,000) somewhere in glorious Cobb County, GA, and it's about 90% that I'm going. I could be moving as early as April 1st or as late as mid May. I was planning on just being really quiet and secretly live in Chy's polebarn, but he is quite the clever one...I think he'd catch on eventually. So...I'm pickin' you locals' brains here. What do you know about this area? It's not a dry county is it? Are there any areas within...let's say...a 20 mile radius that a yute such as myself should consider looking at? Particularly near some bars but without fun Atlanta traffic...c'mon...I lived in NYC for a number of years...I've had my fill of gridlock for a while.

You'll like it. North of Atlanta, lots of hills and plenty of bar hopping. Marietta is the county seat and firmly enclosed in the greater Atlanta gridlock zone so you'd be better off slightly north of that, lots of great locations 20 miles outside of Marietta.
Bring your own water, that's going to be a dilemma for the forseeable future.

I've spent a bit of time around Smyrna because that is where my wife used to live.
Loved the place, there are some good bars around there and it didn't seem to take too long to head off to Helen in GA which was one of the nicest places i've ever been. Stone mountain isn't too far either and that is a nice place to go and have a picnic and watch the laser light show in the evening.
And if you are into plane spotting you get free airshows from the nearby Marietta airbase.
If you like KFC then you can go to "The Big Chicken". Its a million times better than any KFC you get here.
Basically I enjoyed it there and would have quite happily moved there had the work situation panned out a bit better.
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

No sir, Cobb county is NOT a dry county, however, if you want beer on Sunday, you better get it Saturday night, as the "blue law" is in effect, no alcohol sales on Sunday...I had lived in Cobb county for a number of years...It has grown basically into the city of Atlanta, and growing more everyday. Not sure where they are contemplating putting a tunnel that size though...We (me and Kimmy) are 12 miles west of the Cobb County line, in Paulding county...(Hiram).

I dont know about that. All i know is a bunch of friends of mine were in Atlanta for a conferenace and they all hit the Buckhead area one night and said that they had a wild time. Girls on bars dancing, shooters from the belly button and all that good healthy stuff.

eh...it's about 75-80 miles away from where I want to be and all the way on the other side of Atlanta. I don't see me ever showing up to work on time once I find that bar either.
I'll regretfully pass.

I hate to burst you guy's bubbles, but Buckhead is closed to nightlife. Happened last fall. They tore down all those places to put in a very upscale shopping and residental area.

Northwest of Atlanta on I-75, its county seat is Marietta. One of ten original counties created from the Cherokee Nation after the 1832 Land Lottery. More than you ever wanted to know about Cobb County GA Named in honor of Thomas Willis Cobb, U.S. representative, U.S. senator and Supreme Court judge. The city of Marietta is named after his wife. Cobb County plays a major roll in The Civil War. A large training camp in Kennesaw houses many of the Georgia recruits for the Confederacy and Georgia Militia. On April 11, 1862, 23 Union spies spend the night at the Fletcher House and Cole's, planning the theft of "The General," a locomotive on the Western and Atlantic Railroad at the water stop a few miles north of Marietta known as Big Shanty. The following morning James Andrews and his raiders ride the train into history in an event that would be popularized as The Great Locomotive Chase. The Atlanta Campaign wrecks havoc on the county. A group of battles loosely known as the "Marietta Operations" and the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, just west of Marietta, take a heavy toll on the Federals and Joe Johnston's Army of the Tennessee. Oh no, no kidding. I'll take CFA over KFC any day. But then, in all honesty, most KFC's I've visited in the last couple years are so dingy and poorly run, that the comparison is unfair. Perhaps if KFC put as much effort and pride into their restaurants as CFA does, I'd sing a different tune...

Love Chick fill A! for fast food chicken sandwiches it can not be beat. Anyway, I see you'll be working on the tunnel to alleviate the traffic on I-75/285... about time they did something about that, dang traffic in this town is horrendous. Besides bars don't forget that there are soooo many places to find some awesome food and the venues for concerts and sports are great as well. I think you'll like it here. There are many beautiful mountain roads to explore too to calm the "Motorcycle Gods" down.

Each or between the two of them? You have to specify or you might get mislead.

Oh I know it's just that one might have three teef's and the other might only have one. Obviously you would want the three toofer since she cares more about her appearance. Although remember Mark, looks aren't everything.

Ummm, I lived 19 miles from the Georgia line in South Carolina, and I'm quite sure from my many trips "over the line" that Georgia isn't much different in the "teefers" department!
