I have a new friend. His name is Bob. 16 week old chihuahua, and I am in the process of teaching him to ride on my bike with me. Any suggestions? Anyone else have a biker dog?

I would get one of those doggie carriers for the rear.There are several brands at varying cost. You don't want Bob to fly off when one of those crazy cagers with a cell phone cut in front of you and you have to make an emergency maneuver. There was thread here once about them. You might want to research it.

lol Yeah, that had a fleeting moment in my mind actually. I wish I could figure out how to post a pic in here so you guys could check him out. I got him all decked out in biker gear and everything.

Cool. A guy here in town takes his slightly larger dog with him in a plastic milk crate,(Can be had at wal-mart) strapped to the luggagge rack on the back. Years ago a had a very small rat terrier who liked to go while zipped in my leather jacket, with just his head sticking out! If I had to do it again, I would build a special pad on the tank and make a short leash wherin he/she could stand and sit in front of me, while tethered to me to stop him/her from falling off. A bit of training, that.

I would NEVER torture Bob by making him wear hardly gear. I'm a very good dog mom. lol

Many years ago, I had a cat that would beg to ride. She was a cute little thing, all black except for a white triangle 'bikini bottom' between her hind legs.
She used to climb up and ride around the house on my shoulder and every time I went out on the bike, she would sit by the door meowing to go. So, one time I zipped her up in my jacket with her face showing and took her for a ride down the driveway. As soon as she figured out my hands were busy, she scrambled out and up on my shoulder with as close to a big smile as a cat can manage.
Next day I got her a collar and a leash. The leash was shortened enough to keep her safe if she fell off (she never did) and we started taking rides. She only complained twice. First real ride, we came to a stopsign and she started crying because she though that stopping meant the ride was over. Another time, she started yowing in my ear on the way home. As soon as we stopped at the house and she was unhooked, she jumped down and ran to the catbox.

I've often contemplated getting a sidecar for my dog Cody. He loves riding in the truck and the boat and I'm pretty sure he'd stay put in a Sidecar. I could always attach a double leash so he couldn't jump. I could have a special leather helmet and goggles made for him. He'd look like Snoopy.

I never could get mine to actually climb into the sidecar so I'll never know.

Word has it that Bob is a control freak and will want to take over the controls of the Legend you pilot. Please be careful!

My dogs can't fit on my bike, no one makes carriers big enough for two English Mastiffs, my Jeep almost isn't big enough for my two monsters.

Tori, I've been looking around and I saw this on the internet. Road-hound.com. They have these little pet carriers that fit on the back of your bike on a luggage rack. I think they would be good for long rides. I would post a picture from their website but I don't know how.
