Folks for the first time in my life i am giving up. Not on life or anyhting, but on a bike. You may remember the pic of the Thunderbird I recently bought. Well It ran fine then stopped running. Dont know why but it just quit. I looked it over checked everyhting and nothing. Made a phone call got a factory service book, went through everyhting on this bike, from checking the timming, to all the elec componets, to the carbs, EVERYTHING! I could not find anyhting. Called a buddy of mine who works for Triumph in Atl, his mom lives here, he came down and we both went through it. He is stumped also. There is NO reason this bike should not run. Everything is is workign like it should.

So i am throwing in the towel and parting it out, I feel so defeated. So low, so lost with this bike lol..

there I got it off my chest, I feel better now lol..

Matt, there IS gas in the tank and the petcock is open, RIGHT?

Give it a week, let it bounce around in the back of your head and then have another look at it. Sometimes, just walking away for a while is a good strategy.

Want my shipping address?

It has to be missing one (or more) of the basic ingredients, gas air spark and compression.

yes freah fuel, gas is on, battery is fully charged, key is on. everyhting is there for it to run. Gas, air, spark, and timming. it just wont run. Has good compression across the board. Carbs are working, spark timming is dead on, plugs are brand new, even went up and down one heat range with no change. Took the bike apart from one end to the other, checked every wire for voltage and ohm values, EVERYTHING is in spec. All the switches are working like they should, coils are within spec, It just dont want to run.

And to top that off I just saw I posted this in the wrong forum lol..

No it wont fire on carb cleaner. I dont know what is going on with this bike. No the exhaust is not plugged. The bike ran like a top. Took it to the store shut it off came back out and nothing.

Chy,, I might just bring it to you.. I am so sideways in this bike I know I am overlooking something real simple. I have to I have proven all the other stuff fine lol..

Hang in there for a bit yet. Do what Greg (Bayern) said. Wait a few days. If you have gone through everything twice and it still wont start chances are it is something really simple that you just havent thought of yet.

Leave her alone for a few days. The go and give it another go.

When I restored my Austin Healey Sprite, it took me two days of banging my head against the wall to realize that I had put in the distributer gear 180 degrees out of phase. Dont give up. Just look at it like a puzzle. You will solve it. And you will be glad when you do. If not, then please ship it to me.

You lost the frame ground to the battery.

I am by no means a mechanic but I agree with oldroadie. My sons 67 mustang gave me the blues behind a bad ground. My other thought is maybe the kill switch shorted out and grounding the system. Just my 2 cents worth. Wish you luck.

No offense, but I see a "DOH!" moment in your future...

Walk away for awhile. Put the towel back on the ring post.

He says it has spark so I doubt it's the ground, I'm thinking a sheared key on the flywheel that trips the pick up if it's keyed to the shaft. That would still allow spark and everything else to work but still not start. Never inside one of those so don't know if that flywheel is on a spline or not. Also valve not closing crossed my mind but on a 3 cyl it would probably still start. Once I get some more details my opinion may change but thats what I'm thinking right now.

Don't part it, walk away for a few days and rethink about it, have butchers around the net to see if anyone else has had similar problems. Good luck
