Hi, guys just quick queston, I have around 5100 miles on my 07 SM and it seems that rear brake pads are gone...is that something unusual, or is it normal...does warranty covers that because it weared so fast...please let me know...and I do not use rear brake a lot, front brakes plus engine braking...

thanks

I'm a heavy back brake user (along with engine braking) and I'm on the third set at 6700 miles. So don't worry it's normal.

And no, it's not a warrenty thing.

FYI, I am a heavy front brake user but use my back brakes also. I end up replacing the back brakes more often. I think I change the back 3 times to every 2 times on the front. I also think I get about 6 to 7,000 miles on the back.

depends on riding style. I am only on my 2nd set in 15,000+ miles and just changed them at about 13,000 give or take.I use my engine to slow down a lot and tend to break equally between my front and rear, the front having most of your stopping power. On the other hand it could be a caliper sticking or a warped rotor. (probably not a warped rotor unless you feel a pulse or vibration on breaking. You can also look for a discolored area where the rotor has gotten hot, but doubt thats the issue)If you tend to use your rear break by itself to slow or just use it more to stop than the engine or front then thats why.

The factory uses very soft pads so they won't make any noise. You can get a good deal on better ones here.

Their delivery is so quick you could almost run outside and get your parts as soon as you finish ordering them.

Mine were gone at 4500. Needless to say, I quickly "learned" how to use my front brake more (primarily).

Pretty much the same. Just make sure to loosen the guide pins before you unbolt the caliper and watch that the fluid doesn't overflow the reservoir when you compress the pistons. Might be a good time to change the fluid, but that involves bleeding the brakes, and that's a whole 'nother ball of wax...

If I can change them...and whatever you may think from other posting I make, I'm not technical in any way, but if I can anyone can.
Get the Haynes, read it, re-read it, then do it. (if you haven't got the Haynes find a mate who has.....or buy it yourself. Most of the stuff from an 06 SM is the same as an 07....it's cosmetic differences).
