Me and my wife has always liked the tast of tea, in fact we drink far more tea than coffee now. One day how
ever my wife went by a tea shop and got me some loose tea. Now I only had loose tea once when at my grandmothers and was a younge teen. I forgot the stark contrast between bag and loose tea. It's so much fresher and has a distinct taste to it were as the bags don't have the flavor and can have an after taste. Both me and my wife are hooked on loose tea and can't or won't go back to the bags. Now I have ordered a bunch of loose tea from Twinnings and we are thoroughly enjoying it. My questions for the tea drinkers out there what brands have they enjoyed. Would welcome your input.

Give gunpowder tea a try. When I was working in a TV shop weekends and after school, the printer next door used to brew up several pots a day.

Had lots of loose things but never tea. I'm a green tea & genseng kinda guy.

You aught to give loose green tea a try. There is bigger difference between loose and bag with green tea than black.

i havent drank tea in 25 years or so, but my wife and daughter do . they luv Tetleys and Twinnings Earl grey .

I'm probably preaching to the converted, but for those who may be tempted to try it.....

The art to tea making is make sure the pot is hot, flush it through with very hot water just before you make tea.
Use one teaspoon (5ml) of tea leaves per cup and one extra (for the pot).

Try and pour just enough water into the pot for the number of cups you want plus one.

Make sure the water is boiling when you pour it into the teapot. Let it brew for at least 4 minutes - NEVER STIR IT IN THE POT !

and use thin china cups rather than mugs to drink from .

and don't forget the strainer !

Now dont get mifed but,

Stick a liptons tea bag in a mug, slosh in some boiling water. dunk the bag about a bit then add some milk.

I love tea and will try any type. I do have to admit that I don't use loose leaf but get the bags instead. The only way I like to drink mine is black or with a little honey in it, depending on the flavour and put that into a glass cup to drink. From what I understand that is an eastern European way of drinking it but then again I was raised by Polish imigrants.

An Englishman once stated that he didn't understand the way Americans drink tea. First you boil it to make it hot then you put ice in it to make it cold then sugar to make it sweet and lemon to make it sour. Sounds crazy to me too but I love it.

...iced tea....tried it once.....only once !

As for Billy tea, the overarm swing we call 'mashing' and was the trademark of the Railway Engine drivers of old.

Saw a guy do it once trying to impress some visitors but he was too close to a doorway and the can hit the door jamb. He looked like a complete tosser covered in tea leaves shouting "oh me F*#King 'and....it's F#*king burning !

if one doesn't have a "tea shop" locally, where might one find these "loose" leafs? would like to try something other than bags and, any special instructions on keeping them fresh, if need be--thanx

Actually when someone said Tetley's, I immediately thought of

And they had the best ever advertisments in the 70s and 80's with the tea drinking chimps.

I like the tazo zen green tea, and the funny thing is i never had Twinnings until i served overseas in Dubai. Now i love the Earl Grey from Twinnings.
