A story about a woman driver doing 45 MPH in a 30 limit while texting on her mobile phone hit and killed a guy on a bike who had jumped a red light.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/7270751.stm

She was gaoled for 4 years and banned for 5. (quite right) The cops said that will make people think twice about using their phone while driving, his parents said that justice had been done. they seem to ignore the fact that HE JUMPED THE LIGHTS AND THEREFORE CONTRIBUTED TO HIS OWN DEMISE.......SO IT SEEMS THAT IF YOU RIDE A BIKE, THEN THE RULES OF THE ROAD DON'T APPLY TO YOU !!!!

I wait with bated breath for the next case that involves a MOTORCYCLIST killed while jumping a red light. What's the betting even if the cases are identical the driver will not go down.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Don't know how it is in the UK these days, but in the US, especially in California, bicycle kids think they are immune to redlights and stop signs. Apparently, that judge was one of them, unless it was clearly shown that she would have been able to avoid the collision if she had been paying attention to her driving and obeying the speed limit unless the sentence was strictly for those offenses. No matter what someone else does, speeding is bad and playing with your toys instead of driving is bad.

Now, in Los Angeles, it was all the fault of the missus that some idiot who worked for the city ran a redlight at 50% above the speed limit while playing with his toy phone and hit her car broadside.

Nope - but I thought it was just me!

Cyclist do not have to have a licence, take no test to prove they are competent, or even know the road rules; have no number plates, pay no road tax, do not have insurance.

There was a proposal put forward that if a cyclist was injured in a road accident then the insurance of the driver of any vehicle involved would have to pay up REGARDLES of Fault. There goes your no-claims bonus!

When did you last hear of a cyclist being done for drunk in charge? and how many do you see wobbling home after time?

Yep - Cyclists are above the law. We just have to suck it in and live with it.

To make it worse THEY RIDE AROUND IN LYCRA. Scrawny little bony arrses sticking out; Stinking of stale sweat as they get in the lift with you, sometimes with their bikes taking up half the lift!

They ride at 5 mph up hill wobbling all over the road in packs 4 across the road holding up all the traffic.

If you need any more convincing how bad cyclists are. Its the national sport in France - need I say more?

Here in Oregon, if a bicycle gets into any accident with a car, it is the cars fault no matter what. There is also a group in downtown Portland (I forget what they call themselves) they hold protests against cars by blocking all trffic with their bicycles. These are also the same knuckle heads that think that they should be able to ride on the freeway. About once a year they will all get on the local freeway and block all the lanes by riding 5 mph. The worse part is that the local governments support them. Darn bicyclists, they complain about not enough bike lanes (Portland has more bike lanes per capita than any other city in the U.S.) and demand that we build more without them contibuting to any of the costs. sorry for the rant, just tired of a lot of stuff that is just so wrong

Hey Soren, you should have seen what I saw the other day. Guy parks in front of our office to go to the restaurant next door, opens his door and WHAM bicyclist goes flying ****** over teakettle. Guy comes in to ask if any of us saw it just in case the kid sues or something...he said it was totally accidental - but it just happens he's been wanting to do it for years... <wink wink>

LOL! You guys have a camera out front?

There is a guy at works that rides a bicycle to work almost every day (if I hear him call himself a biker one more time I'll scream). Once in a while he'll be coming down the hill (to Swan Island) to work the same time I am driving to work and wouldnt you know it he'll decided to cross the road without paying much attention. A couple times he's been lucky not to get hit (once by me).
