No more Jacobs or Emmas...

So as fatherhood fast approaches, my wife and I begin to ponder names. Strangly, we can't agree. Here's the catch: we're expecting twins.. but we don't know the sex. And since they are fraternal, we need two first names and middle names for boys and the same for girls.
We agree that we don't want the popular choices (see thread subject).
Now, although I am not Irish, I dig names like: Declan, Gareth, Ewan, Liam. My wife hates these choices...
So since this website affords me audience with folks from all over the globe... I thought I would put it out there:
Who's got some unique names for me?! ( accepting all genders )

my little boy is Jacob Daniel.

Jessica did not like my choices either. I thought Blaze, or Tyler, or something uniqure would be nice.

My children are Morgan and Dylan. I wanted to name my daughter Michele after my wife, she nixed that. Sadly, she passed away when my daughter was three. I wish I had stood my ground since I'm forever calling her Michele anyway, which is cool.
I like Malcom,Maxwell,Kyle,Michele(with 1 l),melanie, and Vanessa. You've gotta be careful though, remember the SNL skit with Nicholas Cage and Victoria Jackson choosing baby names to go with thier last name, Aswiepe.

My advice? Don't give your kid(s) names that are too unusual- it just aids in making their childhood more difficult. I have run across a grand total of about 5 other Stu/Stew/Stuart/Stewart/Stuey's in my life and one of 'em is a stinking cartoon character!

My kids names? Jake and Luke.

(Was supposed to be Jake and Elwood, but the wife talked me out of it!)

Stewart ....... "It's outside your field of expertise." "Poppycock normally is."

I agree...me and my sisters all have unusual names and while we knew exactly who was being talked about, it was annoying when you get "that's an unusual name.."

Our names :
Hannah, Nina and my full name is Georgina. (it got shortened to Gina as I refused for it to be shortened to George. It's just stuck)

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Congratulations, Mikey! Keslowena!

In case anyone notices, this is my first posting to this great forum - probably should have done this somewhere else, I know, but I just wanted to pass on one or two ideas to Mikey for the imminent twins.

We have a Celtic language in Cornwall. Celtic names here are very popular. Here are one or two examples.

Firstly, boys ......

Perran (after the patron saint of Cornish tinners)
Conan
Jowan (John) or 'Jan' for short
Myghal (Michael)

Girls ....

Morwenna
Lowenna (Happiness)
Sowenna (Health)

Congrats on your upcoming father hood.

I have twins, a Boy (Graham) and a Girl (Sarah). They will be 6 next month. Twins are fantastic and to have one of each is as good as it gets

Sarah was always a girls name that i thought was very classic. Though not very original.

Graham was named after the Arsenal manager from a few years ago, George Graham. I didnt want to pick George as i though everyone would think i had a thing for Dubya. The only draw back i have found with the name Graham, it is not very common here and when ever you try and find things with names written on you can never find anything with Graham on it. Something to think about when picking names. Children love to get stuff with their names on.

Also, some of his school friends call him Graham Cracker.

Also, i might add. pick a name that people know how to pronounce. No one here can pronounce Graham. His name gets pronounced Gram, when it should be Grey-Um with a silent H.

You Americans, I do wish you would learn the langauge

My kids were given Hannah Grace and Emma Claire, long enough ago for the popular choices to be Brittany, Tiffany, Chelsea, Megan, Stephanie, etc. Fine names all but we were looking to go a bit more traditional. Like many other things the popularity of names tends to be cyclic.

A friend of mine is very proud of his Irish heritage as well and he's name his kids Shamus and Ioan (pronounced Owen). For the life of me I can't remember the third kids name.

OK, I thought that was strange, my first 2 are named Morgan and Dylan!

We used Morgan for our first, not knowing what the sex would be, and would have used it for either. We still didn't know for the next ones, but went with Dylan for a son. I have heard of that name now being used for girls also, but the definition is man or prince of/from dark waters....not something for a girl IMO.
Just don't use Pat(no offense to anyone past, present, or fictional)....always think of the SNL skit, and have used the term to describe someone of ambiguous gender more than once!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

My very Scottish godsiblings are named Angus, Gavin, and Bronwen...
I'm half German and half UK mutt, so the boys got named Christian and Connor. Funny thing, my ex and I agreed that I got to name boys and she got to name girls, and we only had boys - she always mostly wanted a girl too, and after me had two more boys..

I know I shouldn't do this and I apologize in advance. But did anyone hear about the asian couple who gave birth to the little black baby. They named him Somethin' Wong.
I know, I'm sorry, I always do that. Just when everything's going so well. I go and do something like that.Again I'm sorry.

He's French

Oh, that was terrible. Terrible!

I love Arsen, he has done so much for Arsenal he will go down in the clubs history as the greatest manager/coach they have ever had. BUT, I have always believed that George Graham started the revolution at Arsenal, he brought the Championship trophy back to Arsenal after 19 years with out a title. But due to his little oopsie, he has become the forgotten hero. Plus he was a dam good player in his day as well.
