Quote: I've never heard of an insurance company asking you what you wear while riding before issuing a quote.
Let me educate a bit. Sport bikers are more likely to wear more gear. Yes there are exceptions to everything. The VIN on the sport bike is what triggers the insurance rates. Its not the repair cost or a Harley Heritage Softail would be thousands to insure. They capture the stats on who gets sued when they hit and how hard they hit. They don't care who dies because they are not giving out health insurance.
The GSXR and the CBR100RR for liability used to be the highest and probably still are. The reason is they are driven at super high speeds and tend to hit stuff.
My post was really meant to say, a larger percentage of sport bikers use more gear than the cruiser guys. Its the behavior on the bike that kills most people. Meaning even with all the gear they hit more stuff than cruisers because they tend to take way more chances than cruisers.
#1 cause of death is a left turn in front of a bike. (If the bike is well in excess of the limit he can't stop or avoid so his odds of dying increase) #2 cause of death is speed single vehicle accident #3 cause is alcohol also filters through the top two.
Gear or no gear is not even captured by NHTSA. Its horsepower and behavior. Ask you agent the insurance cost on a GSXR vs. a Ultra Classic.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.
