What I find fascinating, is the double standard that exists for cars and motorcycles. I live in Kansas and we have no helmet law. I'm not for a helmet law. I say rider beware. Make your choice and live with what comes as a result.

That being said, the police here are all the time doing these "safety" campaigns about how they want to keep people safer on the road. Its a big public deal and they advertise it. This safety is accomplished by police who go out with the sole intention of spotting people without seatbelts, and then writing them a ticket.

I find it a bit surreal when I am riding on my bike, which is surely one of the least safe methods of transportation in existence, and I pass someone in a vehicle with airbags and side impact protection pulled over for no seatbelt. Is it really all about $afety?

I pretty much always wear a half helmet. I don't wear my leathers in the summer. I want to be as safe as I choose. I don't want someone else telling me how safe I "have to" be. Rights given up are rarely given back, no matter how sound the reasons are for letting go of them.
