Great, That will make the Meriden and Hinckley bikes that much more valuable when they shut the factory down again.

I will keep mine. Then at least there will be 2 Triumph dealers in town to go to instead of none.

Agree and some would say doesn't matter. 2006 is the last year for the English exported America/Speedmasters in the US anyway. There is of course the extremely rare 2007 that slipped by Thai radar. They are as rare as the 2002 pre-fire Hinckleys.

Maybe tradition does matter? OK, I'll leave it alone. Same bikes anyway, right?

See where this is going again? Back to traditional square one. Yep, make mine air-cooled and carb'd.

Well, at least Harley maintains the traditional aspect of its bikes, like I doubt the look of the tank would have changed on the Speedmaster and America, nor would the badges have been cheapened ( on the Bonneville, the America, and Speedmaster, they are now glued on, and I think they may be non replaceable, but they are plastic and cheap). HD does have nice fit and finish, real nice chrome bits.

The product I have I love, so any sale wouldnt affect my feelings to my bike, and for the future, it would be about the company is run and the products are advanced.

It would be a odd blending of cultures though.

The "T-Rod". Fake carbs, 1620cc, water cooled, decal on the fat tank. Lots-o-power, but so did the Kawi 1000 back in the day (and nodbody's retro'ing those)....... tradition? I always liked dinosaurs.

Unless Triumph current ownership is in desperate need to sell, I can't see it happening. As hard as they have worked to keep the classics and Triumph heritage, it would be abhorrent.

Absolutley right. This rumor has been floating around since Triumph filed for bankruptcy in 1983. So, there's no sense in even thinking or talking about it.

Why would Bloor sell out to Harley? Triumph is still growing and the financials are looking much better. I don't think this will happen.

I agree but somehow if HD were to buy Triumph (which I very much doubt and agree witjh Fishercat's point), one would think that the specific heritage and culture would be the foremost items of value to them.

Methinks Triumph would be better of going public anyhow, if they were to change the current status at all.

I think one of the reasons they are doing so well is that Triumph hasnt gone public. They can do what they want and what they need to do and not have to please any stock holders. ONce they went public, it is no longer about the bikes or heritage, but all about the money and keeping investors happy.

Not to mention that going public leaves yorself open for a take over. In a private ownership, it is completely impossible.

I agree completely with your points.

However, I only mentioned going public (as opposed to selling out to HD) 'if they were to change the current status at all.' (see above).

And yet HD has done very very well satisfying both the HD heritage and stockholders since they bought themselves back from AMF. Check the fit and finish of a new HD, Triumph could do worse...but it ain't gonna happen.

Amen to this. I work for a public company, and post-Enron, and to put it mildly, it SUCKS. We cannot do what we need to do to grow revenue or be more successful, because we are beholden to Wall Street and the all-mighty SOX legislation.

A private company can go public and still remain independent as well as safe from hostile takeover if the owner retains controlling interest (usually over 50%) in the company.

Of course, eventually this could change after the majority stockholder dies........

They could go public and only issue shares that represent 49% of the company. That way the current owner would continue to be the controling party.

We could all be partial owners.

I'd buy a share. Put it in the filling cabinet with my one share of Coca Cola. It was given to me.

Last of the big investers me. The last time i thought about buying shares was when Lord Hesketh was trying to raise money for his V-Twin bike. Sure am glad i was skint when that came around.

OT, Shame what happened to Hesketh. That was a beautiful bike, well i thought so anyway.
