Hello, just replaced my stock America bars with a set of custom drag T-bars. I am keeping my stock grips for now. So, as a result, I now have a couple of holes on each end of the bars where the stock bar ends went. But without an insert, no way to use them. I have been looking around on eBay and other sites and have only come up with some crappy aluminum knurled nobs that I am not sure will even fit (seems like they are for 7/8" bars)! So, anyone got a lead on some nice looking bar ends that will work with 1" bars?

Yes, however it looks like those only work with stock bars where there is an insert to screw them into. These non stock bars are open from one end to the other.

Check out Chapperal motor sports real cool cheyene bar end mirrors if you're so inclined. I have them on my Norton and they work as good as they look(real good convex). Or,polish up a couple 10 guage shotgun shells,(remove primer first). I used some on the Harley I'm doing now in the bars and the fender strut holes, they look great. Ammunition, always a reliable accessory.

Somebody rigged up an insert for aftermarket bars, but for the life of me I can't remember. There was a chunk of rubber with washers on either side and when the endcap screw was tightened it compressed the rubber, pushing it outward, which had a strong enough contact to hold the endcap on.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yes,expansion plug, that is the same set-up as the cheyene mirrors I mentioned. Very similar to the old rubber replacement freeze plugs or the oil fill plug on a big diesel engine. I have found the parts to do this at my local true value. Also Happy B-day Friar John. Don't worry about getting older, the alternative is bleak!

I've used rubber stoppers and sheet metal screws. Works perfectly. Go to Home Depot and get the stoppers in the right size. Then screw the bar ends into the stopper using a sheet metal or wood screw. Voila!!

You can use chrome snap in plugs from the hardware store.

You can check around engine shops or truck dealerships, they make a rubber stopper/plug with the washers and nut preattached to the rubber plug, and as mentioned above, just find a machine screw with a tapered head to fit the nut in the plug, and tighten it up. As it tightens it compresses the rubber plug causing it to expand and make a tight seal in the hole. They are used all the time as a tempuraury field fix in engine blocks when a frost plug blows out or you loose your drain plug. Cummins, Cat, Detriot, etc used them on dipsticks to seal off the dipstick in the tube to prevent dirt and crap from getting into the engine.
I like using these rather then building one with Home Depot parts cause it is one unit, but not sure on price difference.

There are some out there but the thread was wrong, you would have to adapt it over. I don't remember what thread they were posted in or who posted them but I know they are out there. I didn't want to spend the time searching but if you want to I know there was a post out there somewhere with them.

Just for reference, I use BMX bicycle bar ends like these. The inside plug part is a bit smaller so i just wrapped them with a strip of rubber to make up the slack and then tightened them up. Theyre made of aluminum come in alot of different designs and theyre like $20 max. http://www.danscomp.com/products.php?cat=PARTS&show=BarEnds
