Too much lately I have read about cheap fixes. Fine. Plug your tire, shim your cush drive re-use your chain rings. Just tell me so I know not to ride with you. I got nothing against someone riding within the means of their financial abilities, just be honest and ride solo if you are too cheap to maintain your ride responsibly or ride solo. grrr

Yes big deal about shimming the cush drive. To me it says you don't have the money to maintain anything else. Unless you are riding your sickle without any mods at all, you got the money friend. Kudos to those that can't afford to ride but do. Hope to not see you on the rode.

Disclaimer: I shimmed my cush drive because I didn't have time to order one before my roadtrips last year. I'll get a new one this summer when I get my next set of tires.

Cheap fixes and shortcuts and cheap tools may give you that warm fuzzy "look how much I saved!" feeling, but they will bite you in the ****** eventually.

I'm with moe on this one, especially since there's a lot of newbies of unknown mechanical skills reading this stuff.

I'm no master mechanic myself, but I know enough not to skimp on things that my life may depend on.

So, Moe, can you recommend the proper gage wire to temporarily afix my headlight bucket until I'm fortunate enough to find a bolt along the berm this summer?

Seriously folks, I agree. If finances dictate you take a short cut or two, and you're comfortable with that, please don't subject someone else to your chosen risk. I believe that's all Moe's askin' - just a little common sense and honesty. Just remember that there are just two very tiny patches of rolling rubber between you and The Maker. When they stop rolling, everything turns to sh1t.
