Oh ye of little faith. The R-3 was also once an imaginary bike.

Talked to my dealer and he said that the engine looks much like our engines only bigger....not like the ones in the spy photos....

Don´t know how much his words are worth but if it´s thru the 1700cc bike is more interesting to me anyway...

Also looked at the R3 touring... to me the changes they have done to it looks like stolen straight from a Yamaha dragstar (the dash) and a Honda Shadow (the rear section) "Go Your own Way"... not sure about that anymore......

Johann, if you get the first look at this thing in June you have got to get some pictures for us. I just hope it's not made in Thailand.

I just wish Triumph would be a bit more forthcoming about the bikes they are building. Seems like their secrecy works against them. They need to let the Bike-buying public know what's coming out. Heck, I want a 1700cc Triumph, but am ****** tired of all of the "supposedly" threads and rumors that are so freakin prevalent on the 'net. I want a bike that I can sit on. Not one that is a ghost. TRIUMPH - If you pay attention to the folks that buy yor products - LET US KNOW!

Gotta agree with Triumph needing to be more forthcoming with the upcoming models. Regretfully sold the Speedmaster a couple years ago for something bigger and hated leaving the Triupmh family. If I had known for certain there was something bigger coming down the pike, I would have held off and stayed Triumph.

Resurrecting this one so as not to start another... for those possibly interested.

I just spent the weekend on a ride with the national distributor for Triumph (same source as before) and he gave me the following info:

The bike's launch has been pushed back a further six months as they are redesigning it from scratch. Apparently it looked too conservative and much like a bloated America.
They are aiming for a more radical design.
It seems that several US dealers got a peek at it (or pictures of it) and were disaappointed.
As they are looking forward to it being their "bread and butter" model (especially going head-on with HD), they needed something that would create an instant "wow" response.

Although I have heard rumours of the displacement being 1700cc, he still maintains it will be circa 1600cc.

Note: If that spy-pic we saw looked anything like the design they had, then for Triumph's sake I am glad they dumped it.

Yep Thanassis. Seeing as how Triumph has already planned this machine as a "cruiser" and supposedly directed it as competition against H-Ds, then unless they make that puppy look as air-cooled as they can, and hide the radiator as much as possible, which was something that that "spy photo bike" failed at, this tact of a redesign might be their best bet at a successful launch.

However, I have to emphasize that this bike will supposedly be a cruiser, and this idea of a "radical design" seems somewhat counter-intuitive, as "cruisers" by definition should be more conservative in design, as the potential customers for this niche of motorcycle tend to be more conservative in their motorcyclng tastes.

For example, just look at H-D's V-Rod and it's lack of acceptance for the most part by the "traditional" H-D crowd.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I think I'll interpret 'radical' to mean kinda 'cool/sexy' which is what a Triumph cruiser should be.

The guy said the problem was that the design was TOO conservative.

What I really really want to know is will it take diesel oil in the gearbox (if it has one?) or will it be restricted to synthetic cowboy oil?

I guess with the latest Rocket III version with the single hand light and new tank, and the new tanks on the Speedmaster and America looking similar( I guess an attempt at a family look for cruisers ), will this new one have the Yamaha tank too?

Well, with what corporate did to the speedys and americas, I can see the need for a WOW machine. Wow is how I look at the new speedies and americas. Like wow what have they done to them?

There was one Speedy with the new tank with us over the weekend. It's not so bad 'in the flesh' so to speak. In fact it looks quite smart.
Either that or I just got used to it.
Still prefer our tanks ... by far.

I don't mind the new tanks - they just look generic.

The old tanks are so much more defining.

Ok my turn at adding fuel to the smouldering bag of conjecture.

I spoke to my dealer and gained the following "gems" lol
He is going to a dealer conference at Hinckley in June where he expects the new Speed Master/America/Mayflower/Speed Twinster to be announced. Capacity? 1700cc ish...who knows, but I wish they would get on with it. It's time to sell the Speedy so I test rode my mates Road King but it's not the bike for me, that and HD's are way over priced in Au. I want a new scoot SOON Mr.Triumph so hurry up before you lose me.

...yes, that is a single seat...no, I will not put the other seat on...yes, I am selfish...yes, you should buy your own bike

Yeah! I'm hoping there's a blue book price drop in the value of used Rocket III Classics when it (and possibly an updated 2500cc Rocket III model) comes out.

I was only saying yesterday that I wonder how many people wanted a Triumph but felt the 900cc was too small and 2300cc was too big?!
Perhaps they went to a Japanese manufacturer because they didn't know a Tiumph was on the way.

I know these manufacture's like to keep their cards close to their chests but with so many spy pics out there and I'VE spoken to the dam test rider for God's sake!
Why don't they come clean and say, "OK, yeah you got us, mid sized cruiser on the way, watch this space for exact details"
It was posted on this site a few years ago that the question was asked at the factory (on a tour) and the guy couldn't have been more shifty and guilty looking if he'd tried.

Wendy and I test rode a Rocket Tourer yesterday (only because he didn't have a 'normal' Rocket on demo).
I want a standard R3 but I'm almost thinking of waiting a few more months to see if this dam thing appears.

The way things normally work is this ... I will buy the R3, a week later, the new one comes out ... you see if it doesn't!!

I am prepared to selflessly buy a R3 so that yous guys can get the new tourer.
I can post my PayPal account for contributions to the fund.

Look at it this way, for the sake a few quid each, you ALL get the new bike.
Ok, so I get a new R3 but I promise not to enjoy using it ... honest.
I'll just be happy knowing you guys have the new cruiser ....

So, in other words, this'll be sort of a "quid pro quo" thing, huh FT?!

Yeah Dan! That'll be our FT over there, alright! Britain's very own "Herbert Hoover"!!!

Though I'm thinkin' 'cause those blokes over there seem to like that there "royalty thing" so much, FT might want to consider goin' the Huey Long route and promise that "Every man a king" thing to 'em over there instead!

(though on second thought, I don't remember history bein' too kind to those two american dudes...so maybe these slogans might not be such a good idea afterall, huh?!)
