I designed this bracket and had a friend cut it at his work and will be using it for my crank case breather, but once I put it on to test fit it, it is almost the same level as the hole in the crank case and i'm a little concerned of back splash oil going through the short tube and staining the filter (they are chaep though, the one in the picture was $8). Does any one have any expierence with this and know how bad or how fast it stains? Will I be replacing it every trip or would it last a year?

I thinks yer gonna eventually have a slightly saturated filter . Not too bad , though , just gonna collect dust . Those filters are really light and can stand alone upright on the tube . Sometimes a little tie strap helps . Bracket is a good idea , though . Too bad it couldn't be relocated .

Nice. I was too lazy and decided to go with a cheap unit from the local HD shop. It was around $15.

Looks like it came with it's own bracket , cool .
Or did it ? Has it gotten "oily" , yet ?

I drew up the bracket in AutoCAD, sent the DXF file to a friend that works at a machine shop, and he entered it into the comuter that cut it out with a high def plasma machine. I just made it this winter so I heven't even riden it yet this year, but that is my question is how bad will it get in this location or do I need to think up a new location and bracket? I was also thinking of spending some extra money and getting a K&N filter cause they work with oil as a filtration so oil from the crank case wouldn't affect it as bad.

I have the same filter but I mounted it farther back and higher, bolted to a tab on my custom battery box. The hose runs though that tube in the frame to the left, and the filter lines up with that. My filter isn't oily at all, I imagine due to the distance and elevation.

Same part (Emgo) hung on downtube & resting on crossbar.

As with John's, the line slopes down & it doesn't catch anything.
Looks like Tom's is more like horizontal, though.

BTW, for those who use the Emgo part - check the socket heads that hold the filter to its bracket.
Mine were finger tight out of the box.

I'm a Civil Engineer Technologist student going to college at the moment so am using an educational version of 2008. The school loads our laptops up with almost th whole AutoDesk suite except for Maya or Inventor, we use LDD mostly in the Civil program though.

Thats cool, my buddy's a civil engineer. I work at an MEP firm drafting/designing HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, & Fire protection. I currently have 08 MEP right now, we have a subscription here so we get the newest one all the time. If you ever have any questions in autocad send me a PM, ive been working with the program for about 7 years now full time, since release 14..haha

That's very good to know, I'll have to keep that in mind, thanks.

yeah no problem at all. Autocad is definately a good tool when youre planning out stuff like that. Heres a little diagram i whipped up to explain the battery relocation to people on the site.

All good stuff above Being there's several way to skin a cat..... I mounted mine up high to avoid the oil saturation (BTW it gets pretty saturated over time being up high). I removed the screw in hose barb (fitting) to remove the bracket and got a good stainless washer (large diameter/ small hole) and mounted in an existing hole in the upper rear engine bracket. Then ran a stainless braided hose with the decreative ends (clamps) down to the engine fitting.
