Well, it was a beautiful day here in Seattle yesterday and I went riding with my friends. One has a Busa and the other has an ST1300. We hit this LONG stretch of open road with no obstacles so we decided to open up the throttle. Well, I have to say, I now have experienced ton-up. Looked down at my spedometer and it showed 103. Wow, that was a blast. Not something I would do everyday (I'm pretty much a safety freak), but ******, I needed to experience that and I have to say it was FUN!!

Its nice doing it on a bike that feels like it will stay together, isn't it?

When I did that on my chopper the front tire would "hop" long springer. Guys would think I was nuts and ask if I was scared I just tell em it's the nature of the beast. The same guys would ask me about the back end of my hard tail hopping on rough corners, I don't even notice it been riding it so long. Now that I am used to my Speedmaster I may notice those things.

The fastest I have gone was near 120mph mark on my 1987 Kaw Ninja 750r. That was also the last time I ever went that fast. Too scary. That was also when I was much younger, and less afraid of F*ing up.

I fully agree. The TBA was rock solid and felt safe the entire time.

It's a nice feeling, done it on the Honda on a few occassions, but only only very straight roads and nothing in front of me. Done it once on the trump and that was on the M6 with my brother trying to tag along on his 750 BMW.

I must admit going over a ton on the speedmaster was a bit of a battle trying to keep hold of the bars, not exactly the most aerodynamic bike ever made by a long way but it did feel nice and steady.
Although it's much more fun to just take it easy and enjoy the trip.
I have taken my T595 well into the red on a nice clear road really just to say I've done it but certainly won't be making a habit of that!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news BUT our speedos are about 5 mph off. You were only doing 98mph. Now you should go out and try it again right away!

Years ago, while riding with my uncle with his 1100 suziki and my 750 triumph chopper, on a long strait away, I took her as fast as I could stand the vibration and feeling, and reached 98. Felt like 200! With the chopper front end and soft, no shock rear, it was a scary thing to do! But it was a really great handling, riding bike for a chopper in those days.

I know mine will top 110 on a hot day with a headwind, and the "official" topend for a stock bike is 115. Some speedometers read 5 low, some read as much as 10 fast, so you never know.
BTW, I've gone 160 or better several times in my Gruman Tiger!

100+ on my America with my Davida pudding bowl helmet and loud exhausts was as much fun as doing 125 on my Speed Triple with my full face Arai. Tried to get to 100 two up on my America but the poor girl couldn't make it (I ran out of road).

103 used to be my knick-name (in fact I think I have a vodka gun with that written on the strap) when I had the ninja. My mom couldent believe I could get back with a gallon of milk so fast.

i've had the Thrux up to 125 (slightly downhill), which I figure is 115 or so. I had my roommates FZ1 up to 140 and that was only with 2/3 throttle in 4th gear. I'm sure that one will break 160.

I think my little clutch-slipping problem is now fixed. I changed the springs last Saturday (the 10th), but never took her out for a shake-down.
I did yesterday morning, and could not get it to slip at all. Got her up to 115 (indicated) on an uphill side of an overpass, but I was 20-30 miles or more outside the city. Pretty good crosswind blowing, too, but the bike felt real stable. Don't underestimate the value of the small Flyscreens! They take more wind off your chest than you might think! I know I could never do it with any less than a full-face helmet on though. No way.
