I read an article about the new Chevy HHR SS. Can get a 5 speed, runs like or better than the Cobalt, essentiall a wagon version. Utility for ya. The mini was fun wasnt it?

And member sweatmachine posted a pic of his Jetta TDI he had chipped. He said it's stupid fun to drive.

Oh, yeah. It was pure fun all right. I've pretty much said the heck with practicality after that ride. That's a lie - I never say heck.

And really,I used to love VW Beetles back in the day - That Cooper has far more practicality than any bug ever did and I was fine with them. It's not like I haul cord wood any more... Loved that Mini!

Peugeot 206 GTI, Renault Clio Sport GTI, Renault 5 GT Turbo.

All comparable to the cooper and stick to the road like ****** to a blanket!! May be hard to come by in the States though.

My long term plan is to get an old used 4WD pickup to go along with the Mini. That way when I have to haul or tow something, or the weather REALLY sucks, I'll have that option. I really don't want to give up the fun of the Mini just for the few times I need something else.

Forgot to mention, my opinion on cars is very biased. I work in a chevrolet dealership, so i guess its MY job im trying to save if indeed american car makers are on the way out. BTW remember when harley was almost dead in the 80's that all changed...

I had a friend in the early 1980s with a Renault Le Car, it rusted faster than a Chrysler ( and back then, thats saying alot, as they could start rusting in a year or two ) and parts to repair were scarce and must have come from a guy rowing across the Atlantic and devilering on land by a big wheel.

Le Car was half a step up from a Yugo. The only good thing about either was that if you wrecked them you had an excuse to get a real car. Either of them made my old Super Beetle look great. Even my 1964 MGB was more mechanically sound.

We actually used to have a Renault/AMC dealer in good ol' Manchester CT when I was a kid! Then it was just Jeep for a while... Now it's a Stewarts.

The VW GTI or Jetta are better all around cars than the Mini or the Mazda.

This is a false statement. VW's have a well erned reputation for breaking down and being very expensive to fix. Japanese cars in general are way more reliable.

The Mazda3 is also VERY fun to drive.
