I have been wearing a full faces helmet for years and have just recently started riding with a half helmet and goggles. But I am having a hard time finding goggles that work "right". Every pair I have tried has either:
a) Let in too much air around the edges causing my eyes to water up at speed b)when I got a tight seal to prevent this problem, fogged up almost immediately.
I'm sure the ski-goggle types would work better but I'm not crazy about the look. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've been wearing Smith sunglasses for about 10 years and have become very fond of my Threshold "Sliders" which have three sets of lens (dark, light, clear). They block the wind well, the lens interchange is easy and super convenient. I was also happy they have metal spring temples, so they can be bent to fit not just plastic that doesn't retain the shape. They're not cheap, but Smith has always replaced any broken pair without question under their Lifetime Warranty. (I've broken two pair so far in 10 years) http://www.smithoptics.com/Threshold-Slider_30_31.html

Those Smith's are great glasses!
You could always try construction/safety goggles. They have styles now that look just like stylish sunglasses and have shatter proof lenses. They are generally reasonably priced as well.

I use 'safety' glasses too. Far cheaper then purpose made biker glasses. And as safe, if not safer than them too.

Freedom's got the coolest goggles I've seen - they only fog up when he has a close call with a cage I think. How bout you come in off the range and let us know what kind they are bro (y'all know he's an ex-cowboy? A real one?)

I like my Wiley X Brick glasses/goggles, check them out at Wiley XThe pair I have are the transition glasses so they are great day or night. Also, all Wiley X glasses meet or exceed all safety requirements. You can also get any of their glasses with prescription lens. Tom

I use these Scorpion over-the-glasses $30 goggles in the summer with good results.

There's no such thing as an ex-cowboy. Once a cowboy, always a cowboy. Even Heath Ledger.

These are the ones I bought 4 years ago. They work real well, but are getting worn out (frayed headband & the little clip piece between the lenses broke a few years ago). I may ante up for a new pair.

Thanks, but I tell you Roadie. I just barely made "journeyman" level & protested the union dues. I do have one of those big felt hats however. The guy I worked for was a real one.
Whose Heath Ledger? Wait, I remember now !

I went to Wally-World, grabbed a bunch of sunglasses that looked OK, and headed for the fan display. I cranked up the biggest one they had and started testing. The results in the store were consistent on the road at 100mph.

I bought some glasses from Aldi for the ridiculous price of £3.29.
The good thing is they have interchangeable lenses in so you can have tinted for the sun, clear for when its cloudy and yellow for when its a bit misty or dark.
I do get a bit "teary" if I go over 70 but for normal use they are fine.

I gotta pair of "bobster" sunglasses off ebay. Theyre self tinting when its sunny, can be sunglasses or turn into goggles with a strap, and they block out the wind really good. I ride with these things on from the morning right into the night driving and never have a problem seeing a thing. Theyre $35 come with a case, wipe cloth, and the goggle strap that can be used. cant beat them i think.

The goggles are great with open face helmets. Bad in winter they do tend to mist up a fair bit. Get the goggles with the centre nut for better fitting as they can be adjusted. make sure your open face helmet has a stud fastening loop at the back as riding with your goggles on top of your helmet occassionaly they will slip off the top of your helmet. Field of vision is excellent. Only downside is that the elastic strap will eventually start to give way but its cheap and easy to replace.
One major problem be to careful of is when pulling away from face to put on top of helmet. Do not let go as they tend to spring back painfully.....just dont ask how I know this.

I tried a pair of Halcyon goggles on, and hated them. I don't know if it's just my small head or something, but I just found they restricted my field of vision. I'm still happy with my shades and safety glasses.

Yep wore those for years with my half helmet and loved them. Still have them but the leather is shot and they look silly without a helmet. They are available with prescription lenses too. The ones I have don't have the screw adjustmnent, they look like the top set in design but are like the 3rd set down in the look. The leather doesn't cover as much of my nose either but they are that brand and have the split glass lenses and all.Mine may have been Mark 4 Silver Cross model.

I had a set of those and the foam around your eye came off in less than 1 season and generally didn't like the fit or feel.
The Halcyons I have are over 20 years old and used and abused and are still functional even though the leather is now starting to tear from age and neglect.

Thanks much for the tips. May have to hunt around to find a dealer state-side to try them on. 2 aye and 1 nay. Will them them a shot. Sounds like leather is better to go with than the PVC versions.

Resurrecting this thead - Smith does it again. Using the Threshold glasses with my new Scorpion 3/4 helmet, I managed to poke the metal ends of the temples thru the rubber tips. I learned the helmet was pretty tight in that area and to put the glasses on than the helmet. When riding season ended, I sent them back to Smith and asked to repair/replace them under the lifetime warranty. They sent me a new pair with three new sets of lens (dark, light, clear). That was nice since my lens were four years old and had gotten scratched a little. I don't think you can beat that kind of warranty coverage.
