Thought of that old ad slogan from "American Graffiti" after a friend forwarded the following to me. Enjoy, all you Gearheaded Boomers out there! This is kind'a "boss"! http://objflicks.com/CarsWeDrove.htm

I was 11 and we were at my dad's last Air Force assignment prior to his retirement at MacDill AFB outside of Tampa, FL. I had a front row seat to the Cuban Missile Crisis had the show gone on. Fortunately, it was cancelled before the curtain went up.

Was a toddler right here in Windham, NH. but in the early 70' went to see American Graffiti 5 times. Loved the cars from the 50's and 60's.

'62? That's easy. I was wrenching in the 504'th ordinance company (GAS) and drove a Dodge "Truck, 4X4 3/4 ton M37" loaded with 1/4 pound blocks of TNT intended to destroy our workshop in case of invasion. At least up until November. Then, I got a 2 week ride on the MSTS General Patch to the US. When I finally got home, I started doing research on what I could do to make my old 52 Plymouth faster and ended up stuffing in a DeSoto Hemi engine.

Too bad you kids weren't around back then.
Even though I was only 10 in '62, I remember those long ago days of bugging my older married sister to drive me in her and her husband's '56 Bel Air with the Crager mag wheels to the A&W Root Beer stand, and those carhops there delivering ice cold mugs of that sweet nectar of the gods like it was only yesterday!!!

'62, Quonset Pt. R.I., my dad was a chief in the navy and we were all on "pins & needles" with the Cuban missile crisis looming. it was ok though--'cause if the "ruskies" started shoot'n them missiles, we could always hide under our desks at school just remember "duck and cover"

Dwight, You sure have exposed a bunch of SNK's around here. I couldn't drive yet, but big brother could and we had access to a '57 Star Chief Tri-power. Did that same A&W thing.

OH! You mean THIS, Roger???.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=C0K_LZDXp0IYeah, I remember that alright! (but I always wondered why they didn't show the rest of this...you know...the part at the end where they tell ya that while you're under your desk to go ahead and kiss your a$$ goodbye while you're at it!)

Second or third grade in Corning, Iowa.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

"Wasn't born yet." "Not a twinkle...." "My parents were 9." Man! You "kids" will never know was fun it was back then when: Kids could actually look up to adults with respect because when most of those adults said "I promise to love, honor and respect this person 'til death do us part"...they did for the most part. (at least my parents pretty much did anyway...Happy Valentine's Day Mom and Pop, whereever you are)

Stroker McGurk was the man. One I especially remember was in 4 frames. Frame 1, titled "Something old, he was dusting off his old roadster. Frame 2, "something new", he was bolting in a highly built 59A block. Frame 3, "Something borrowed", he was bolting on a Roots supercharger. Frame 4, "Something blew", he was halfway down the dragstrip in a cloud of smoke and flying pistons.
I knew the end was near when Rod and Custom changed from their pocket size format.

Now that was good readin'! And then there was Dragtoons and Cycletoons. I actually had a letter printed in Cycletoons. A guy was spouting how his Yamaha 2-stroke would eat any 4-stroke bike (maybe it would have!). so, i challenged him to race my Honda 300, and if that didn't work, my friends Bonnie! The guy actually wrote me a nasty letter....those were the days... ------------------------------ i remember when Rod & Custom was digest size...think i have a couple, and same sized Model Car Science(?) mags.
