The price at the pump for diesel scares some away. Around here, diesel is 30 cents per gallon higher than 87 octane gas. Diesel fuel has been in production for around 100 years, and the refiners have the audacity to claim there are shortages, and so manipulate the price. 100 years of 'practice' and they don't yet have a handle on how to make enough? [cough] bulls--- [cough]
I think it's a supply and demand thing. There hasn't been a huge demand for diesel in private vehicles, so production is behind the curve. As more come on line, the smart businesses are going to ramp up production to get the sales.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch (Detroit) the focus remains on huge displacement gasoline burning engines, thus dooming the American auto industry.
(Unless Jones comes along and slaps some sense into them).
