You can put a cummins 4bt into a dakota pretty easy,its a 4cyl turbo that the old bread trucks used.
The problem is people hear diesel and think trucks emitting lots of smoke. So the only american diesels to catch on are pickups and currently due to emissions standards are only available in 3/4 and up. Now I don't need a full size truck every day. I like the liberty diesel and have almost bought 1. But I'm still not convinced of some of the design.
