A little off topic - if only we could get a wider selection of diesel cars & small trucks here in the states...
Imagine (once again) a small pickup turning 30 or 35 city MPG ... (sighs) or more than just a TDI flavored cage to choose from. (double sigh) As a shopper currently in the market to buy a used vehicle, the TDIs are sky high and very very scarce. A nationwide search yielded too few available units, and all were priced way too high due to current fuel prices, IMO anyway.
Imagine a 275 or 330 gallon tankful of state & federal tax free red 'diesel' fuel in the cellar... (triple sigh)
I agree, I've always thought Dodge should put a diesel motor in the Dakota. VW stopped making the TDi for a couple years now too, that doesnt help the used market. They are supposed to come back with it next year, luckily I found one used for a great price and bought it last year. My friends made fun of my car because its a Beetle, but only until I said 45mpg.
I promise I will keep it short. The new VW bluetecs will be arriving in July 08, 50 state legal. The jetta will be LEV without the use of Urea injection. which is big. I agree we need little pickups with diesels. Anyone catch that AUDI ad in the superbowl? That beauty is a v-12 tdi 500hop and 750+ftlbs of torque. I don't understand why the US has some many restrictions on light duty diesels. I blame the wannabee greenies.
