Next week I am going to take all of BA.com on a historic tour of Charleston SC. Trip will leave from my house around 10am. First stop will be at the Little Cricket to fuel up what ever bike I am on. Then we will take the back roads into Charleston. We will make stops at historic sites along the way. I will do my best to tell you aobut each place we visit. I will introduce you to some of the locals, as we tour The Battery, The Slave Market, The Citadel, and places of the like. I will take pics at each stop. We will talk to the sweet grass basket makers, and learn of their story. We will visit the local shops and talk to the owners. We will embrace all that is Charleston. If time permits we will ride to the beach, with luck we will see the girls out sun bathing. It will be fun, it will be a learning experience, you will feel as if you were here. you will almost be able to smell the salt air, hear the ships in the harbor, you will be able to taste the sweetness of the Benne Waffers.. I am looking foward to it, are you?
And dont fret, will will ride by some of the girls dorms at the College of Charleston..
Dont like what you see??? Big red X in the top right of your screen will fix it!

...A public service, making sure those girls on the beach are well oiled up to protect them from the those nasty sunrays, AND inspecting those dorms to make sure they are safe from ogling by any passing Motorcycle perverts....!
...well that's your defence !

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

What a beautiful city. My youngest daughter (age 23) has lived there since 2003. Patriot's Point is a must see. http://www.patriotspoint.org/Home of the USS Yorktown Fort Sumter too. http://www.nps.gov/fosu/historyculture/fort_sumter.htmAside from the significance of being the starting point of the Civil War / Act of Northern Aggression, it's a man made island built upon sea shells.

I cannot remember the name, but the best Pizza in Charleston is on South King St very near the campus. I try to go there every time I am in Charleston. Typically the best Pizza is always near a college campus.

It's Andolinis Pizza, on the corner of King St and Wentworth.
I use to go to Charleston several times a year for work. The last couple of times the ship I work on went there for required Shipyard work, so we were in town for 3 or 4 weeks. Spent a lot of time in downtown Charleston. There are some really good restaurants and bars there. If I ever have a reason to go back I will definitely let you know.

Hey, Beaufort is my hometown!!!!!!

spared by Sherman because it fell to the Union early in the war. Thus, many of the homes and structures from that period still exist. Beautiful area. Many great novels and movies originate in Beaufort. Legendary novelist Pat Conroy calls the Beaufort area home. I used to be his neighbor!

Aside from the significance of being the starting point of the Civil War / Act of Northern Aggression....
Harumph!! The first Blood spilt was in Baltimore, Maryland, on President Street, which will be traversed during the Raid On Fort McHenry on June 20th!!
"The outbreak of the Civil War created a difficult situation, especially in the border slave states like Maryland. Officially, Maryland stayed in the Union and offered its support to the Federal government, but many citizens had strong sympathies to the southern states. These feelings got even stronger after Lincoln’s Proclamation in 1861. While Maryland regiments were included in the Union army, many Marylanders joined the Confederacy and created several Infantry and Cavalry regiments, under the leadership of men like William H. Murray or Colonel Edward Rutland Dorsey.
Ordinary citizens expressed their southern sympathies in songs as “Maryland, My Maryland!†by James Ryder Randall or “I’m Good Old Rebel.†Baltimore women, who sympathized with the South used the Confederate flag for their dresses. The mostly peaceful southern sympathizers turned violent on April 19th, 1861, when the 6th Massachusetts regiment was passing through Baltimore on its way to Washington, D.C. A riot on President Street broke out and resulted in the first blood of the Civil War. In response, the Maryland Governor Thomas H. Hicks and Baltimore Mayor George. W. Brown requested that the President not to send any more troops through the city and the City Council agreed to raise $500,000 to be used to build city defenses.
The suspension of the civil rights in Maryland by the President followed and many significant Maryland officials were arrested and imprisoned in Fort McHenry, including the Mayor Brown, the Marshal of Police G. P. Kane, several state delegates, as well as attorney Francis Key Howard, the grandson of Francis Scott Key."
