Looking Awsome, I like how you placed the battery, I'm in the proccess of cutting up my own air box cause I'm too cheap to buy a freak kit, but that actually looks realy clean once the wires and cables are hidden.

What did you start with? It looks like a total hybrid TBA/Speedy. Did you paint an America engine black or did you ditch the alloys for spoked wheels?

Friar.
She started life as a 03 America. I painted the engine cases black using satin engine enamel. I also painted the cylinder head and polished the fins.

Dormaar.
I basically just turned the whole battery box sideways and ground off any mounting points I didnt need. Two steel strapsare screwed to the battrey holder and attach to the cross piece the rear guard mounts to.

Zmilin, Steal away Bro! I got the idea off someone here about 6 months ago. I think it will look better when I finally get round to making a full stainless steel battery box with a bit more of an inner guard to it

Not to toot my own horn...haha...I wasnt the first technically either.   I like what you did with the ignition, Ive been meaning to clean up that area on mine as well as wrapping the battery. Im just waiting for some warmer weather. Nice job though

This may have been addressed before, but where do you put the fuse box? Did you just tie it up under the seat?

i just thought of asking that question
from the looks of the one side picture, it looks like the main harness that connects to the fuse box goes up under the seat, but i can see how he has it fixed inside there. He mightve had a bit more room if he hung the battery a little lower than mine.

actually in this picture it looks like he mounted his vertically next to the ignition switch...no?  i dont know where he got the slack in the harness though to stretch it all the way over there, but there looks like something black in the picture next to the ignition and that bracket holds both the fuse box and ignition in place so its possible.

Oh, good call. I know when I made my battery box back in '02 I had to reroute some wires and I think I had to splice at least one wire to reach. My ignition switch is almost exactly in the stock location, give or take a quarter-inch, and the fuse box is mounted right next to it.
My battery box is very heavy and hard to work around, so I'm thinking about doing something like what you two have done.

yeah i was trying to figure out how he mounted the ignition that way, and I knowticed the little rivets/bolts next to it holding the fuse box....Gotta watch that setup in the rain maybe. I was nervous having mine under the seat like that. Would that be even more convenient to hot wire than mine?...haha

Friar, youu guys have worked it out! The fuse box IS between the battery and the ignition. The back of it is a little exposed but I have ridden in the rain for hours and haven't had a problem. I will eventually build a full stainless battery box with a inner guard, but for a quick mod, this has served me well

Brokenfixed, I have indeed re routed the harness up over the frame just under the seat. It was a little tight. When I fitted the Carlini supersweep bars , I moved the handlebar wiring from the headlight and now have the two big plugs under the tank. I had to pull the harness apart so all the wires to the plugs exited the harness above the engine. This allowed me to move the whole harness back slightly to give me that little more length I needed.

All the black parts (forks, shrouds, headlight. tripple trees etc) were painted with satin epoxy enamel bought from the local hardware store.Between coats I bake the parts in my BBQ at about 250 degrees for 30 minutes and then recoat. I do this a few times to build up the thickness and end up with a really durable surface. I just put 5000km on around tasmania and victoria over the holidayswith no wash in all that time and all the painted parts held up really well as you can see by the photos

Trojan, I use a generic epoxy enamel spray can from the hardware store. As with all good paintwork preparation is paramount. I first did the lower fork legs 20000km ago ( about 3 1/2 years ). You need to build up multiple coats, I would guess there would be about 12 coats on those forks. There are no chips in the paint although you can see some indentations where rocks have impacted

FYI, my fuse block and ignition switch have been exposed to the elements (some serious rains on occasion) for several years without problems. But last year, probably somewhere in Utah, my fuse block cover flew off.

the previous owner had mine wrapped and padded by an upulstry place. Its the same seat that "fry guy" has..(he was the previous owner).

Awesome paint tips. I REALLY want to paint my forks! Did you strip them first or just sand them up for some tooth? Also, I'm not confident BBQing my forks... think they would be ok with just multiple good coats?
