I was enjoying a little trip on the SM today, when a beautiful sound came up behind me. I am lucky to live near Iron Horse of Texas, so we see a lot of them, but I've never ridden on or with one. This one was the Tejas model in blood red with the ghost skulls. Absolutely breathtaking machine. The sound of the ground pounders about 3" off the road and that 101" S&S, the low hardtail rear with the fat rear rubber, the tall, long, raked out front, chrome, chrome, and more chrome- Wow.
We get out of traffic the road turns into a two lane blacktop and heads towards the lake. With a blip of the throttle, I'm instantly no longer the lead horse. The pace picks up and the road begins to get less straight. The first right handed sweeper- "sccccrrrraaaaapppppeeeee" - there goes the ground pounders. Straight into a left that starts easy then gets tighter and "ggggrrrriiiinnnddddd" the frame and gear box get some custom work. He pulled over and I stopped to make sure he didn't break. Man was he bummed. He got better and we started talking about the SM, when he asked, pointing at the SM, "what do 'those' go for, about 20?". I just said, "about that"- he was already having a bad enough day...
