Hey folks,
As always, I will plead uneducated new guy but it's not like this is rocket science or anything. I change my oil Saturday and oooh...look, drips off the filter. So, I wipe them up and wait...couple drips off the filter. I wipe it off, wait, no drips. Start the bike, no drips. Let it run a few minutes, no drips.
Take it out for a test run and, (not that I notice until five minutes later)apparently shifting into second, about 100 ft. from my drive, pow. Oil everywhere. I should take a pic of the street.
So, figuring I cranked it too tight ( I used the canister wrench), I redo the entire thing all over again, filter and all. This time I go with hand tight. Then I put rubber gloves on for grip, and give it one more small snug. I start the bike, oil blows out the filter gasket. I wipe it off, no leaks. I let it run for a few, no leaks. I rev it, pow...three quarts on my driveway in a foamy puddle.
Cool. So I'm figuring I call everyone I know, including Ma's Cycles and three mechanics, one of which rides our bike...general consensus so far? Crappy filters. Since everyone I asked said the same thing, I'm inclined to go with that but any other experiences or insight on these filters that anyone would like to share?
Personally, I think NAPA ought to refund my cost on everything. They offerred to give me my loot back on the filter. But if it's their filter that caused it, I figure they should be up for the full tab.
Anyhow...Any other thoughts, opinions or insights? I'm open...
BB
