My mom and aunt took my uncle off of life support today and he passed this afternoon. This was the uncle I have spoken of here before who was a Federal Marshal. He had Emphasema for a while and lately had congestive heart failure that had been treated and recently found he had end stage liver disease. Things had been looking up and he had been getting stronger in preperation for a liver transplant. Well he got some stomach flu thing few days ago and that lead to an infection that put him in the hospital with kidney failure. He went on life support and the toxins had gotten so bad that they got to his brain and that was it. At that point he was taken off the life support. He lasted the rest of today and passed this afternoon.

Sorry to hear that man.. it is allways a tough call to make. I am sure he is much happier where he is now not suffering or needing a new liver.

My condolences for the loss of your beloved uncle, Ian. I remember you mentioning him with honor a while back. May he rest in peace.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Thank you all. Talked to my mom today and there will be no funeral at his request. He wants to be cremated and part of his ashes at our cabin that he loved and the rest on top of a mountain in Delaware Water Gap on Park Service land then we are to have a party, these are his wishes and they sound just like what he would want.
My aunt has a great group of friends there were always 2 in the waiting room at the hospital and they brough breakfast, lunch, and dinner to her there every day. When my mom and aunt got home from the hospital they had dinner all ready and waiting at my aunts house. They asked my mom how long she was staying so they knew how many to cook for. They really are a great bunch. Makes me feel much better to know she has a group of friends like that to take care of her and she won't be alone.

It's a big loss Ian and I know you hurt but it's good to know your aunt and mom have a group of friends surrounding them. It's tough not being there yourself but at least you can take comfort in the knowledge they're in good hands. May your uncle rest in peace and may you find the peace you seek.

Ian, my condolences and prayers to you and your family. My thoughts are especially with your Mom and Aunt....so difficult to have to make the call to take a loved one off of life support, allowing them to pass on.
