I'm pleased to report that I FINALLY got my '03 SM properly jetted (130/45) and D*MN does it make a difference! Wooooo hoooo!!!! "Accidentally" broke the ton on the way to the Brit Bike Rally in Leesburg, VA today. She'd do it before, but it took a little coaxing -- now she'll blast through the ton no prob. Tee hee. And finally got rid of that nasty hesitation on takeoff -- that was really pis$ing me off! Life is good. --Jaeger

Running stock air filter with the snorkel completely removed. Pipes are TOR longs, one shim in the carb needles, 3 turns on the air screw. Sea level (Washington, DC). I was really lucky -- my local dealer (Clinton Cycles) gave me a really good deal on an 03 SM that already had TOR pipes installed. Now all I need to do is make sure the carbs are balanced (my buddy's vacuum gague wasn't wokring right today) and I should be good to go for quite a while! After this, the only mods I want ot make are cosmetic or ergonomic -- at least until it's time for me to do the big bore in a few years. --Jaeger

..."ergonomic"... Are bikers allowed to use a big word like that? Somehow I don't think that word is tossed around the HD dealerships very much! <chuckle>

Ah, Leesburg, VA! Right on US15. South of Point of Rocks and just a very little south of White's Ferry. The only thing about Leesburg is it is too close to the District and Dulles! The Western side of the District is the only way to travel with ease round the madness of the beltway! Leesburg, VA The gateway to upstate Maryland!
All this from a Florida rider too!
Accidentaly breaking a ton! Careful, as cops like to hang out at the northern end of 15 where it splits between business 15 and the 15 bypass! (No, but I have sweated it a couple of times!)

PapaDean -- Heh. Yeah, well -- after enough years on an SV650, I developed a fine appreciation for ergonomics (given the SV's general lack thereof). How's "Mongo like comfy bike...";)
Moe -- Yep, you got it, though Leesburg is juuuust inside the District's event horizon, so to speak. It isn't too hard to get past there and into proper VA countryside (which is, I promise you, superior to MD -- I lived and rode in MD for years, and it's just nicer down here). And don't even get me going on VA cops.... grrrr.
Tomstrump -- "Breaking the Ton" or "Doing a Ton" means going over 100mph on yer moto-sickle. Once upon a time (read: 30-40 years ago) having a motorcycle that'd actually do 100mph was something of note. Therefore, the bikers of the day gave it a funny slang term so they could boast. Any more, of course, anything other than the most aenemic (sp?) of motorcycles will do more than 100mph (e.g., my aforementioned inexpensive SV650 topped out at about 135 with my rather heavy posterior on it).
