2009 I am planning on riding to Sturgis for part of bike week. So if there is a Center of the US Rally for BA.com try having it the first weekend of Sturgis, and then from there I will ride on up to Sturgis for several days. My current route to Sturgis has me riding through the eastern edge of Kansas, so it should be easy to divert further west.

Kansas isn't flat, it has a undulating surface. If you drive fast enough you can almost get sick to your stomach, but you have to drive extremely fast.

I like the Ark. location. Beautiful country with lots of twisties. I don't know if anybody is interested, but I think it would be fun to plan a route with stayovers at members homes. Dependant on room and friendliness, of course. Riders could meet at the home adresses and ride out together the next day. Chance to make friends and ride with a new friend. I would be willing to sponsor some riders on the way, then I could have a group to go with also.

I grew up in SE Kansas,and go Pheasant hunting around the Lebanon area about every year and there isnt much to do up that way,the towns shut down in the early evenings and its hard to find a good place to eat.
I know that area and most of the state real well,the north central part of the state has a lot of dirt roads that go on forever and some just dead end.
Anyway that area is real scenic and there alot places to ride too.
I been talking to PES (paul)about getting together in Eureka Sprinds,AR maybe sometime in early June,now that area is VERY biker friendly,lots of places to stay,eat and ride.
Anyhow I talked to Yota about and hes down to do it, just gonna have to stay clear of Y-City something about that place seems to turn him on

Kansas is not all flat the riding in the east and north is real good. I would suggest a little town called Cassoday the 1st sunday of any month. We could meet up with anywhere from 1000 to 3000 other riders. OR the Motorcycle Museum in Marquette, KS has a ride in on the 3rd weekend of the month.

The Eureka Springs idea is really great. My inlaws live down there and the riding is great. Just watch out for the dry counties, they still have them in ARK.



BTW: Illinois is the flatest state according to the USGS.

Ahemmmm. The geographical center of the United States of America....all 50 of them is actually in the state of South Dakota which has (and I mean no disrepect to the honored brothers from Kansas being the flatlanders that they are) much finer riding roads for a rally of this sort.

The actual center is in the Black Hills of SODAK.

Truth be told a Triumph rally not associated with the Sturgis Rally ..would be a lot of fun. Plenty of great two lane twisties thru the hills with lots of side routes to places of interest.

The closer to the center of the continuous 48 states the better it would be. This would put the average distance traveled at 900 miles and the furthest distance at about 1800 miles. For me it will be about 1600 miles to Lebanon, KS. So it won't be so much the riding around Kansas as much as the ride there and back. Also mid summer (first weekend of August hint, hint) would probably be the best weather. After the rally those who want to can ride up to Sturgis for a couple of days.

One interesting thing to note, just south of Lebanon is US 36 which is the original route of the Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail, and the Pony Express.

For any of this to happen, someone who lives near any of the locations mentioned thus far needs to volunteer and do the leg work on finding lodging, routes to ride and planned activities.

If nothing changes between now and next year I plan on being in Lebanon, KS on August 2, 2009 staying one night at the U.S. Center Lodge at 405 Elm St. I'll check out the local area for a day then ride on up to Sturgis for 3 or 4 days. Anyone that wants to is more than welcome to meet me there.

Good morning Gossip columnists,
May I be so bold as to recommend a nice town in South Central Nebraska known as Kearney Nebraksa? This town is very user friendly and yes it is a college town with college gals and guys for those of you who prefer.

Kearney is located 24 miles north of my home stomping grounds. It is a town of around 25-26K with enough bars to keep you young'ns into trouble. Yep, strip clubs too! Kearney is 130 miles geographcally from lebanon and the streets DO NOT roll up at sundown! Heck, they even have a drive in threater for the brave blanket throwers.

Kearney also has one of the largest mid-west car shows during the month of July with an average of 400-500 cars in an open forum every year.

There are MORE than enough hotels and all told around 700 rooms availabel at any given time. We do make plans early if we would like to stay because Kearney sets right on I-80 with many travelers dropping in. They also have plenty of sand hills (paved roads) to ride on, but yes some of the viewing is a little bland at times. We can even rent a hall for our festivities.

Sounds like a plan,count me in if we figure out where we are staying,but lets not make it in August, its way too hot up in that area.

Got stuck in Kearney back in 90, when I busted a ball joint on my Karmann Ghia. Found a place called "Trew's Auto Repair," about a block north of the McDonalds near the Holiday Inn and International Harvester dealership.

Had to wait a day for parts to come in from Grand Island, and a day to install. Seems Mr. Trew was quite well known, and had done some auto work for a certain Motor City Madman.

When I went to pay, Mrs. Trew asked what I had done during my stay. Told her it was pretty much walking around and watching the sun set over the IH dealership.

Her response, "That was a waste of time, you mean you didn't know we had a Nudie Bar?????

Laughed 'til I squirted.
