That is an interesting entry by BMW and I like it. Is the "BMW lifestyle" a requirement for it?

We bought the wife a BMW Z3 a couple of years ago. On the way home, I opened the glovebox, found the BMW lifestyle, and tossed that crap right out the window!

But why do they keep putting the oil filter up front where everything the front wheel picks up lands?

I have an Aprilia Mille 1000cc in my stable. The engine is also built by Rotax in Austria unbelievably solid and reliable (138 HP).

If that engine is any indication then the Beemer's engine is going to be a winner.

And yes, 90 HP sounds about right (BMW-style conservative)... but ... 50 per cent more than ours ... sniff sniff

That's a whole lot a power for the size engine.....BUT.....that motor is NOT NEARLY as beautiful as the aircooled Bonnie's. And knowing how BMW prices their bikes, I'll bet it ain't gonna be cheap either.

I think if I was looking for a medium displacement road burner I'd look at the Speed Triple first.

Somehow, that just seems wrong, maybe even evil.

BMW has never been know as being a beautiful motorcycle. Function over form say the Germans.

But I have to agree, they are getting "far out"!!

I picked up the October issue of Motor Cycle Sport and Leisure (UK) this morning and Guru Alan Cathcart writes that the 800cc BMW will "apparently be manufactured by Aprilia".
They did this before with the F650 GS Dual Sport.

and yes ... it's nearly 10:30 am here and I'm working reeeeal hard, not so?

Just stuck a picture of that new 4cyl 1200 thing which I saw over the weekend - looks great in the flesh.
It attracted quite a bit of interest.
Unbelievably, I think the panniers are smaller than the Triumph fabric ones - takes some doing ....

Re: The new Beemer K-bike.

A lot of really cool engineering thought went into that machine...from the lay-down motor to the front suspension.

BUT, no matter how much I look at those freakin' headlights, I just can not get past the feeling that some robot designed 'em, and not a industrial designer with an ounce of "taste".

I guess the question is.....Is the Teutonic mind ever going to get past that Bauhaus mindset.

(hell...even Frank Lloyd Wright added a little "Gingerbread", now and then)

A bike mag compared the headlights to the face of a robot in some kids cartoon series - there's bound to be somebody out there knows which one it is ...

The front suspension (telelever?) looks pretty good.

The bike in general has lots of nice little design touches.
I like it (but wouldn't buy one).

However, if BMW are reading this (yeah, right) I'm prepared to say it's the best thing since sliced bread if they want to give me a bike free.

(Just out of interest, what was the best thing before sliced bread was invented?)

This is a K1200-R. The K1200-S has more faring-work on it.

BMW calls the improved front-end the Duolever. Picture an automotive a-frame on the front-end, complete with a shock & the unsprung fork legs attached to that. If you've never ridden one, don't. You'll hate your flimsey conventional front forks from then on!

Also, 167bhp.... advertised; 0-60 in 2.8 sec's.

BonnyBeemer,
I haven't ridden a Duolever fitted bike but my long-distance camel (R1100RT) has the telelever front-end and even with that, I'll still second what you said (although I perhaps wouldn't say "hate", how about "re-adjust extensively"? ).
Love them or hate them, BMW certainly is innovative.

I'm don't quite understand their parralel twin strategy just yet though .

In that case I'd be "0-60? what's 60?".

Hi BonnyBeemer,
I read about this bike in a recent bike rag. From what I read, it's almost as good as a Triumph. I love the angle of the cylinders, and it reminds me of the Yamaha TDM(?) 850 that never caught on in the Colonies. I hear that the TDM is doing very well in all of Europe except for Britain.

Both the F800S and F800ST look really nice, I'd probably have to pick the latter over the former just because of the ergos, more fairing, and the bags / luggage rack. Check out that new GS adventure, that's a beast though!
