I kept the stock grips on and covered them with black leather (could be other colors)and attached them with leather cord laced along the length of the grip.
I positioned the raised lace so it ran parrelel to the grove where my finger joints rest (at cruising speed throttle position)on the grip. This niciley provided a grip of sorts acting like a throttle boss. Same set has been on the bike for a year now and cost about $13 to make with enough supplies left to make one to two more sets.
