I've just changed the oil and filter for the first time since I've had my BA, I've done 2,500 miles. I had a glance at the owners manual, and it looks like they specify an oil and filter change every 500 miles. Is that right, or is it my eyes? I'd be spending as much on oil and filters as fuel.

No the first oil and filter change is between 500-750 miles. then every 6000. But you will find that every TBA rider has a different idea to what mileage to change oil. I do mine with Motul synthetic blend 15-50 about 5000. Miles, then if you want to get really confused talk about standard, synthetic blend and pure synthetic. That everybody has a different opinion. Just use a good quality oil and filter, I use pure one, it tested as a better filter than K&N. RIDE SAFE.

I just change my oil Steve once a year, I average around 4000 miles a year and then do oil and filter. I give the bike a good check over maybe three times a week during the summer just to make sure nothing has vibrated loose etc..

Every 6,000 miles or once a year depending what comes first. I use Amsoil 20-50 Motorcycle oil full synthetic. There are lots of opinions but from what I have read I wouldn't use anything but the Mobil 4T recommended or the Amsoil.

It's been so long I forgot. I'll go along with others here. Every year or 6,000 miles. Last time I used Mobil 1 synthetic 15/50 wt. I got a 5 gal container at Wal-mart for about $23 and a K&N fileter for 12.75 from NewSpeedmaster.com. Before that since she was new, I was using Amsoil Oil and filters. It just got to be a hassle because the Amsoil dealer here is kind of a long winded pain in the butt. But I would recommend both brands. I've got 24,600 miles on the odometer. Welcome to the site and congrat on your new bike.
