I wanted to share this. Please share with anyone that might fall for one of these. It's hard for me to believe after all the scams that people still fall for this stuff. Tax Scams

It's all in the numbers. Costs nothing but time to send out spam to thousands and then very profitable to have just a few take the bait.
Thanks for sharing.

If you're stupid enough to think the IRS is sending you emails or fall for one of those phone scams...someone stealing some of your money is the least of your problems.

The good news for me is that even if I were to fall for one of these, I should still be OK. My new friends in Nigeria who just lost her husband, will soon be giving me my 30% of the diamond money I am supposed to help them move. Also, it appears as if I have won some very big money in the international sweepstakes that should help.

Your getting 30%. Looks like we will be partners then. I too am getting 30% from that lady. In fact i have already spent some of it. I am a sucker for scams and cons. Last week i brought a job lot of Sky Hooks, and if anyone is interested i have some beautiful Left Handed Hammers still in their boxers for sale. I brought some sparks for my grinder but i am having a terrible time instaling them. Any way, gotta go, The boss is sending me down to Lowes for a Long Wait. No idea what he wants one of those for.

Maybe I should start handing out my personal info. Maybe some will crack into my bank account, feel sorry for me and make a deposit instead of a withdrawal.

Does make one wonder... If they steal my identity and find it is worse than the one they already had, will they give it back? I can see a whole new class of crime.

Some folks really fall hard for these scams. It really is a shame that folks are so gullible to fall for 'em. I remember when these young guys would come on the jobsite and tell us all these big stories about how they had been carpenters when they were born and their daddies were carpenters. We sent them to the tool trailer looking for the Board Stretcher. We would all stand silent and just howl when the ones fell for it and asked, "What does it look like?"

Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2008 06:20:36 -0500 From: Internal Revenue Service <refunds@irs.gov> Reply-To: refund@irs.gov Subject: IRS : Tax Refund
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $192.40. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 6-9 days in order to process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.

Yeah, like I'm going to go to a web site in Pakistan (.pk) using a non-standard port (:84) to submit a form to the IRS that I've already filled out (1040 anyone?). If ever in doubt, just check the e-mail headers to see where the e-mail actually came from. If it's an e-bay email (payment reminder, unpaid item dispute, etc..), it will come from an e-bay server, not somewhere in singapore. If it's a credit union or bank email, it will come from the banks mail server, not a dsl connection in lybia. It's amazing that so many people fall for this crap when it's really, really easy to tell that they are fakes.

Cheers, Brad

The biggest scam comes from the actual IRS. How come I have to pay taxes this year on the tax refund I got last year which was just an overpayment of income taxes in the first place. Doesnt that mean that money gets taxed twice?

Haven't got an IRS scam message yet, but did get two messages from banks that I don't have accounts with asking for my personal info, among other things. I just report them to the FBIs Internet Fraud division and then tell them to have fun in Jail when they are getting a$$raped. Makes me grin a little....

Dave It sounds like you filed a Schedule A, Itemized Deductions, and did not pay tax on the State Tax you paid in. IRS allows a tax deduction, on Schedule A, of taxes "owed" to a state. There are taxes on a refund because you may have not paid taxes on that amount of non-state tax. I am not sure if I have explained this very well, but that is the basic way it works.

yeah, its something like that. I still dont understand why money returned to me for an overpayment of taxes from one year is relevant to another years income calculation. I'm sure its the right and everything, but I dont have to like it.
