A lame snail , that would be slow . Seriously though, I spent the summer of 1971 helping a buddy build a 427 for his '68 El Camino. That thing was serious fast, but did have traction issues. Had to put sandbags in the rear of the bed to adjust the weight distribution.

This is why I HATE concept artists...they draw all these fancy unicorns and then a donkey rolls off the assembly line.

Ford in Australia is also in on the action. Check out this Falcon XR8 Ute with a 5.4L V-8. It's not Holden, but should get out of its own way. This model is also available in a turbo-six.

Cool too, Al! Once again, thanks for the heads-up!
Okay. I'll ask...WHY are those dudes Down Under the only people who appear to understand this very simple concept here, and that IS that a lot of the time the bed of pickups are empty, and so why not have something you can have FUN driving around at those times, that can handle and that you don't feel like you're "up in the clouds" while you're driving it around???(read: Top Heavy!)
(ya know, I'm gonna have to start givin' those mates down there a heck of a lot more respect!)

Yep, that WAS true, Hoffo. And a very fine car actually. BUT, the bodywork was a bit "un-inspired", at least so much as to make a car with the "hallowed" name of a Pontiac GTO less than eye-catching, which is probably why it didn't sell in the number Pontiac was hopeing for, and thus was dropped from their line up after only a couple of years.
It was a shame. For as I said, it was a good car that was supposed to compete against the poorly named four-door(???)Dodge Charger here in the States.

Yep. The HSV line of "tuner cars" is even hotter. 94-96 Impala SS fans are hoping a RWD Holden sedan will enter the US as the next Impala SS. Holden HSV

I spied a 67 Dodge D 100 with a slant six for sale in a newspaper, and wanted to get a look see. I found this website http://oldcarandtruckpictures.com/PickupTrucks/1960-1973.htmlA 1960 Chrysler Wayfarer (pick up)? Don't recall that one.

On the other hand, if you've been bad... you might get the ride (Corvair) that helped put Ralph Nader on the map http://www.autolife.umd.umich.edu/Design/Gartman/Books/Book_Front-cover_Nader.gif So many great pickups pictured there This one caught my eye - a 1940 Diamond T If I recall, there was one close to it at the Kent, CT CAMA show. And this one - a '38 Packard - Woof! what a ride

Yeah, good point! But don't forget...most all of those generally boring and generic looking modern vehicles out there today DO HAVE those balloons that blow up in a hurry inside 'em whenever THAT happens to THEM!!! (but then AGAIN...THIS is comin' from a guy who rides a friggin' MOTORCYCLE around that same L.A. I mentioned above...so what the heck do I KNOW anyway!!!)

No question, the only thing plastic in that Econoline is the covering on the steering wheel. Still, the cab could only be described as spartan and I wouldn't have wanted to kiss that steel dash during a dust up.

Revived this thread before it went to the archives to tell you folks that yesterday I was driving the Spyder around and decided to stop by the dent-removal place where I had the guy named Joe who operates it remove a couple of dings from my Silverado last year AND to whom I sold my old "REALLY starting to look her age" '69 El Camino last year. And there IT WAS!!! Joe had just completed the restoration on it and it was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! It was orginially a deep blue in color, but he painted it silver with black SS hood stripes. There was new chrome all around. He also had the already converted(by the guy I bought it from back in '98) black SS bucket-seat interior completely redone and IT was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL too! And it had the sprayed-in bed-lining. I could not believe it was the same car!!! And even though I no longer owned it, I was glad to see Joe did such a great job of restoring it. But, he did say if in a couple of years he decides to sell it, then he'd give me first offer of refusal. (I actually patted "her" on the windshield and said to her..."Now aren't you glad I sold you to this nice man?!") I'll see if he has any pics of it that he can email me and I'll download 'em on this thread so you can see how well it turned out.

How the heck do you hot rod that? The engine is in between the seats and there's not much elbow room, even with the straight 6....mine sure got hot in the summer even with the windows down...

Yep, Al, that's it straight 6 and all. Now put a steel wall directly behind the driver's seat and engine box and lose the fan on the right and you get the complete picture.
