How does it compare to the America or Speedmaster as far as handling?

It's not a T100, but I'm riding a standard Bonneville today coz my America's in for a 30 000km service. First up, let me point out that with the standard pipes on it sounds JUST like George Jetson's air-car thingy... blblblblblblbl - honey, I'm home!

As far as handling goes you really can't compare a cruiser to a roadster - despite them having 90% of parts the same the geometry of the two bikes is very different. The Bonneville's much snappier around corners (as you'd expect), and has more ground clearance. The seat feels like you're sitting on a wooden plank, but the stop & go is pretty much identical to the TBA/SM. I also noticed the bumps a lot more on the Bonne - even though the suspension's the same you notice the reduced wheelbase in it's comfort. I also found the gearchange to be a lot "clickier", more precise. I put this down to flex in gear change linkage on the TBA/SM, and possibly the extra pivots in the front controls causing some comparative slack.

I'm enjoying riding the Bonne as a change. It's a fun little bike but I'm DEFINITLEY looking forward to having my baby back.

I also ride a T100 and agree with Matt's assessment. I found that the biggest difference between the two are the ergos . . . I'm much more comfortable with the SM's forward controls and drag bars. When I ride the T100, I find that my wrists tire more easily and my legs get crampy. On long stretches I simply move my feet to the passenger pegs and that helps alot. Oh yea, the T100's seat is a brick for sure! The T100 with it's stock 18T sprocket really pumps up the top end; the bike is very flickable (and beautiful in opal/tangerine).

Hiya ImOk

I had a new T100 for four months before trading it for the America.

At the time I loved it but after having the America for a few months I was given a Bonny as a loan bike and couldn't wait to get my America back

It was Ok but just felt so SMALL ...

I was begging for my wide bars and comfy seat back ...

A good mate has got a new tangerine and white (I love that colour) and he & his Mrs love it to pieces ..
She didn't get on with the pillion on the Suzuki Bandit he had.

Interesting assesments. I am surprised a little because I would think that being a lighter bike and having a small rake angle would be easier to ride. I am looking for a cheap easily manueverable city m/c.

ImOk,

It's ironic you should say that, that's one of the reasons I got my SM.
Then again, in my case, my other 2 bikes were not suitable for city use (1 BMW tourer - too heavy and 1 Italian crotch rocket - too taxing in traffic).

It's quite a capable commuter, lots easier to lane split on than the TBA/SM's due to the narrow bars, in fact it felt a lot like travelling back 20 years to my first bike - a honda CB100 (just with a LOT more grunt). If you just want a cheap daily run-about to zip round the burbs and CBD you'd probably find a lot cheaper bike that'll do the job just as well in a 3-5 year old japanese one. Have to say, I -did- get a lot of comments in the 24 or so hours I had the Bonne, but I was REALLY happy to get back on the TBA again.
