With it being bonus month at work and IRS tax refund time as well as state tax refund and looking down the ole road a few months at my impending $1200.00 incentive from Uncle as well in addition to all of the above I am at least mulling the idea of a big bore.
Minus the cost of the kit itself how much labor (I dont plan on doing it meself) dollars can I expect to need to bank for the disassembly, any extra machining work, and the final reassembly? I know all of this can vary but what have some of you spent?
I may put some of this money into a big bore financial mattress and let it grow a little between now and next Dec when it would be optimal to get it done.
Now is not the right time as Winter only has a few more last gasps around here and then March will be here and thats primo riding season.
Thanks for the input.

My total cost was around $1200. all parts and labor including Dyno testing. BUT, I didn't use the full Wiseco kit - everything but the sleeves. D&D Cycles in Pensacola did the work. I swapped out my barrels for ones bored and nickeled like factory - no sleeves. They assembled, checked, ran and re-checked.
To install sleeves you have to have your barrels bored and the sleeves installed. It should still cost about the same all said and done. You will pay more in labor, I paid more for the kit with the nickelsil barrels.

a lot depends on who is doing it and if they have expierence. i am in the process of doing my own which is turning into a pain because of small problems, it really is not hard work tho. to have it done faster you can go with someone who does an exchange like D&D or if you want to use the whole weisco kit you can exchange with bonneville performance, no matter what you decide make sure you get a set price first so they dont try and charge you for any mistakes they make, or anything else that makes it take longer then they thought.

Hi Frank what sort of small problems are you encountering, I am waiting for my spare set of barrels to come back from Grzegorz as he borrowed them to take to Poland, then I will be looking at doing the job. I have found a place pretty close to me who will fit the Wiseco kit (manchine the barrels to fit sleeves etc) for £70.00 ($140.00). But it looks as though it is going to be a next winter project for me..

problem one, the machine shop messed up the boring and i had to bring it back, fight with the guy who swore the job is perfect and it will be fine only to find out they redid both cylinders the right way and he did not want to talk after that. now i have a problem with to much clearence in the valves and have no idea why, so i am taking the head back off and sending it to bill gately with the cams who is going to fix it and shim it for me, he does not even know why its like this, first time it ever happened. my luck huh? all in all no big deal but the head gasket is 50 bucks and shipping and all these little things add up pretty quick. if i had to do itall over again i would of just did his exchange program with the barrels, and sent him my cams in the head and just have him shim the thing so when i get it back its just put together and go. live in learn no? but no biggie and the bike should be a monster when i am done with it

Bloody he11 Frank, hope everything works out for ya in the end mate, I bet you are gutted to say the least. I decided after talking to a mate just to have the barrels done and keep the head standard for now anyway..

Just a thought Frank, if they have had to machine them both again, check the gap in the piston ring to make sure it is not excessive before you build it again, otherwise it will burn oil..

The head is easy to explain if you had larger valves fitted. Who ever did it most likely simply didn't cut the new seats deep enough so looking at it from the cam side it would seem as if the valves aren't closing all the way giving you too much of a gap.

the ring gap is all set and the pistons are installed, only thing holding me up is the head now which i am nto worried about as prob the most knowledgeable and expierenced builder of these motors is taking care of it. just a pain in the a$$ and another small setback but i think it will all be worth it in the end, especially if i get to the 85rwhp i am looking for

You'll really like it. You'll still have the bike you love, but with all the torque and power you crave. I'm really glad I did it.

I spent a little over $800 bucks for labor, having the sleeves done, and port/polish the head when I had my 904 kit installed. It's a real beastie now!
Not you fat Jesus!
