Thankfully we live in more enlightened times and the end of slavery and ultimately, segregation in the Southern States made blues music accessible to a wider audience. Black GI based in the UK introduced us to it and the advent of easier international travel and communications has enabled the genre to reach a wider audience.

It's reminiscent of the folk music of Ireland, Scotland and even Lancashire and Yorkshire where times were hard.

I get really mad these days when someone manufactured girl band e.g. Spice Girls get awards in the R&B section.
