I am bored and 3/4 through a bottle of Merlot. So, outside of the Stones and the Beatles, what is or was the greatest Brit Pop or Rock group.
For my money, the Bee Gees are it. Yup, I said it.
Cause were livin' in a world of fools, breakin' us down...
Mark, this has to be one of those threads?

Negative Ghost Rider. The Bee Gees were born on the Isle of Man and moved to Australia as children.

Actually the Bee Gees are Brits that moved to Australia as children and then moved back.
Still, I'm voting a three way tie for Cream, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
edit: Ryan you're faster on the keyboard than I am, even after a bottle of Merlot

Any of the John Mayall groups, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck Group, Pink Floyd, Cream (or any Clapton group), Moody Blues, and many others I failed to remember. Please, anything but the Bee Gees.

Well they were really an Ozzy band - can't you hear the sheep in 'em ?
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers got to be up there with Led Zep

Working on it, but I will agree that the Clash are a fine group. However, they didn't sell over 220 million albums and influence a generation of musicians, young people, and clothes. I would love to ride the Isle of Man with the Bee Gees pumping in my ipod.

The Bee Gees would have been great had they never got into disco. I do like the early (pre disco) stuff. Loney Days was my favorite BGs song. How many records sold has no meaning in how they influenced music or other musicians for generations to come.

Can I just point out that the BEE GEES ARE NOT BRITISH. They were born on the Isle of Man of British parents. The Isle of Man is NOT part of Great Britain. It is an INDEPENDANT COUNTRY that pays for the UK to look after much of it's foreign affairs. Therefore, if anything, they have dual nationality

That is why I say they are the best. They had a very strong pre-disco career followed by a meteoric rise in the 70's.

And will forever be connected to John Travolta. Actually they probably are responsible for his career.

So true, and to think we kicked Travolta out of Port Orange, FL, because his plane was too noisy.
Elvis, Janis Joplin, Tom Jones, Al Green, ERIC CLAPTON, and Elton John have all covered the 8-time Grammy award winning Bee Gees. There are over 400 versions of "How Deep Is Your Love" in production.
But I do love all of the groups mentioned, and yes, I got most of those last facts from Wikepedia. Time for another bottle.

You right, Bill, I was struggling with The Who, Yes, Queen, The Yardbirds, Dire Straits, The Clash, Ace, Squeeze, Genesis, The Kinks, Free, Bad Company, Tears For Fears and Spooky Tooth but they all came fourth to those first three.

I can't believe the Who aren't getting more support. No way I could ever get tired of the Beatles. My problem with the BEE Gees, they were widely quoted as having said that they thought that they did a better job with the music of the Beatles covers on their Sargent Peppers movie. Remember that movie? I didn't think so. Better job than the Beatles and George Martin on an album that all others are measured by? Oh Paleeeeeez! Give me the Who instead, that's some real rock and roll!
