yes i made a post about it and even put a link to the story but it was gone in the few min's i don't know if it was deleted or not it was just gone and mod's if this wrong please say so i don't want to break the rules but i posted a real story and pic's about this bike?????? Ed

Well, I can't see why it would be deleted but then again a few of mine have been in the past.
could you please post the link again. It's from motorcycle news. VERY interesting indeed. 1700cc over the rumored 1500cc. FINALY a credible source of info on the bike.

Frank! That's excactly what I said too. I hope the spruce up the engine casings a bit. to be honest, it looks like a vtx with a twin motor in it.

remember guy's this a test bike.. out in the public when they go out they paint every thing black so it hard to get detail ... but at least the spy pic is not blurry lol Ed

Excuse me Mr.Bloor, but those barrels on that engine o' yours there need more....FINNING, so as to give it a more air-cooled look, you see!
(hopefully Mr.Bloor will heed my advice here and make that particular change to the castings pictured above BEFORE production commences...but nobody listens to me...so if this IS a close-to-production model, I'm startin' to think I'll pass on buyin' this bigger bike here...but we'll see when I SEE it in person...ya never know)

It is not a flattering picture of the 1700. Looks like it is water cooled. If they are selling out to the USA market they should have gone to a V-cylinder configuration.

rob, it'll never happen.
triple and twins.....that's what triumph has outwardly committed to. With some excellent results too. I am willing to bet that this 1700 twin is going to SCREAM!
Can't wait to try one out.

Well i dont hate it. But i dont love it easier. First look at the TBA and i was hooked. That is not the case here. Im with Dwight, put some fins on the cylinder heads and hide the fact it wearing a big fat water jacket. And please, try sheilding the radiator a bit better. I hate radiators on bikes

I would like to think "bought INTO" rather than "sold out" would be both more appropriate and realistic.
I would also hate to see Triumph put too many eggs into the 'cruiser' basket. There is far too much good to speak of in the 'urban' offerings from Triumph. I really think there are enough cruiser offerings and if they make that thing, the line should be pared down. If anything, I'd love to see a mid to large bike with tour capability and a STANDARD foot/riding position.

It is a test bike so cosmetics will probably be changed slightley. Can't make out if its shaft drive or not, would like to know that, guessing yes. I like it. Anyone interested in some bolt on air cooling fins?

When Triumph comes out with a V-Twin i am buying a Hyosung. 
Triumph is not selling out to the US market. Pandering to it maybe, but not selling out.

What amazes me is that they CAN make a twin that big. The original parallel twins got vibey once you got over about 500cc and the bigger ones (e.g. commando) survived only by being rubber mounted. We're talking about lumps of metal 4 inches across whipping up and down the same distance 50 to 100 times a second!

Balance shafts, Bill. I'm guessin' that kind'a like Archimedes with his quote about moving the earth if he had a lever big enough to do it, you could probably make as big a parallel twin as you'd like and with acceptable amounts of vibration, as long as you also included those balance shafts in the basic design.
The cases on the old vertically-split twins had no room for 'em, of course.

I saw the post and responded along the lines of " is that a radiator? needs more 'cruiser' style and bling.Some glittery bits would help." As for the V twin bit, the comments in the MCN about "selling out" and "Triumph have not done well in America" seems to belie the facts. A bit of fettlin' - and a huge accessory bill.....

OH...and I forgot to add, those Meriden Triumphs 650s with their stroke longer in dimension than their bore were undersquare in design, and a longer stroke engine would be more prone to vibration than an oversquare design would be, which most modern engine designs are today. Of course that causes higher frequency "buzz". And I'd also bet that this new bike here is oversquare.
And I'm guessing because pistons today are "squattier" and lighter than those on my '70 Triumph, there also would be less recipricating weight to cause this vibration.

Yup, it is remenisent of an early 80s model Suzuki GS450 there. But I'm waiting to see the finished product up close and in person before I write it off. After all it is only the prototype test bike and not the final production. Lets just wait and see.

brian, the more I look at it the more I can see that there is NO cover on the top end and it looks like 'something is missing' on the top/side of the engine. I'm thinking that there will at least be SOMETHING there to dress it up a bit....good gravy, I hope so.

Kind of looks photoshopped to me. The gas tank looks like it is sitting directly on top of the valve cover. Also looks like an older jap engine. The pipes and rad remind me of the Rocket III the wheels are the newer Speedmaster wheels. It's an odd mix and butt ugly in my opinion.
