I would still put some sort of support on the back side of the carbs to take the pressure off the intakes. This can be accomplished very easily and cheaply with a simple turnbuckle from the hardware store. Put one end around the tube going between the top of the carbs and the other end up to the top engine mount. I did a quick search and didn't see it but I know someone posted this and had a pic or 2 of it as well.
