I know a few of you guys have a bit of a soft spot for the grain..... Just opened a Christmas present - a bottle of 10 year old LAPHROAIG single Islay malt whiskey. whooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !! First shot - mmmm - very flavoursome. Thought I'd better post now as i might not be able to later ! Anyone else sampled it ?

Holly crap! I had a bottle given to me 15 or 20 years ago in Santa Barbra. Finished that and went looking for more. Never did find it, except for a little bar in Mojave. If I remember right, it was 15 or 20 a shot!

I have just finished off a bottle of Bowmore whisky, purely for medicinal purposes only though.

As whiskies go I've found Laphroaig to be quite a 'peaty' whisky. Nice but prefer The Balvenie myself, it has more a smooth flavour to it...

Went to a Burns supper last night, fund raiser for a local kids pipe band . not more than 20' from our table was the whisky tasting table, which i frequented quite often .10yo laphroiag was ok.15yo Dalwhinnie, not bad.10yo Talisker not to bad,10yo Ardbeg ,bloody terrible ,aftertaste of germoline/root beer yeeeuuuucccchhhhhh .10 yo GlenGarioch , ok .and the best was a 18yo Glenmorangie ,now i had 5-6 shots of this so i am definatly sure it was the best nearly as good as my bottle of Glenmorangie madeira finish . slainte

Sounds like you had quite a night then Gordie! When Alan and myself where up at John o Groats during the charity run there was a local hostelry boasting 100 different whiskies to sample from! Great shame we were there on business or we'd probably still be there now!...
