Very Cool!

(but considering the lack of a rear fender, I'd sure hate to see what would happen if MY rear happened to get too far back on that there seat)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Nice build. I guess he wants to show off that pie-crust rear tire. My buddy says the Triumph gearbox isn't made to support a hand shifter like that and before long it will be popping out of gear.

Not true on the shifter. That part has nothing to do with it staying in gear. There is a ball and spring that push directly on the side of cam plate inside the tranny to keep it in gear. That shaft only moves 2 spring loaded catches that kind of look like the part of your front door that moves in and out when you turn your door knob, those in turn catch on one end of a double quadrent gear the other end of that gear turns the cam plate and the moves your shift forks. Now I supposed if you made that shifter so heavy that it constantly pushed on the quadrent then it would eventually cause a problem but it would have to be fairly heavy and even at that if you simply put slightly stronger return springs in there it would take care of that.

It sure looks pretty, and no rear/front fender not a good idea in the UK you'd get mighty wet very quickly

I think it's great, but I would like it better if it had some type of front and rear fenders.

Just looked at it again and that shifter would be fine it has it's own pivot and a linkage forward to an arm on the shift shaft. As long as everything moves freely no problem.

That video is moving too fast & grainy for my old eyes, but looks like the shifter is attached to something. My buddy was real adamant that the Triumph box wasn't designed to take the weight of a shifter or I guess the extra pressure from leverage of an unsuppored jockey shifter.

Looks like a high school kid put a motor on his Schwinn bike.

A very sad end for a good Triumph motor.

I couldn't find a good shot of the tranny opened up to see the parts. The only ways It would hurt anything would be if it was so heavy it pulled or pushed on the gear without operator pressure,in other words it didn't return to and stay in the neutral position 2 nd way would be pushing too hard on the shift lever,it would add quite a bit of leverage. As long as that shifter returns it wouldn't cause any more damage than the foot shift. I have worked on enough of them over the last 30 years to know this beyond any doubt. I worked on particularly that had the hand shift right on the shaft coming out of the trans and I rebuilt that engine twice without ever having to do any work to the trans. Thats over 50,000 with a hand shift that I knew the bike.(when I say rebuild I mean top end )

EDIT: It came to me with the hand shift too so I don't know how many miles were on it before he brought it to me for the first top end.If you pull your outer cover you will see what
I mean, watch the kick start spring if you do.

I only saw one carb on there, so unless the head was changed wouldn't that make it a TR6?
