Bob, it depends on what you want to do. If you want to go to bike nites and cruise around, the retro cruisers from Triumph are a hoot to ride, dependable with a good center of gravity, and plenty of power. They cost a little less than a 1200 Sportster but are not as fast. They certainly draw a crowd. Yes, when asked you will have to admit its made in Thailand not England. For many thats a deal breaker, for many others it doesn't matter.
If you are looking for a bagger/tourer the America and Speedmaster are not made for that. They can do it but are not made for it. There are Road Kings, Rockets, Strataliners and the like for that.
I have access to a lot of bikes. I ride the America most for everything under 200 miles and enjoy it a lot.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.
