Ya, well we can compare "who's responsible?" notes over a glass of fermented grains in the New Grande parking lot and let FJ be the resident voice of reason Why do all ba.com rides end up in a parking lot somewhere jh

Okay Freedom and I have been talking and this is our new tentative plan. The core route is as follows: We're going to take Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th to get to Mount Vernon, across the Cascades. Freedom has a friend in Mount Vernon so we'll be staying near there for a couple days. Monday the 14th is up in the air, but it looks like I could be on my own that day. I could meet some of you for grub somewhere or go play tourist in Seattle. Haven't been there in a few decades - I think I was about 4YO (hey, I remember the space needle). Tuesday the 15th we're going to do the Vancouver Island loop. Where we end up on that loop depends on where and when we meet up with everyone for the ride to Nelson. We're thinking of leaving Wednesday morning from Surrey. One possible route from Surrey to Nelson is shown in the core route map, above, and is 470mi. The more direct route (as if there really is a "direct" route) is 388 miles. We're open to suggestions on that, but we tend to prefer meandering, non-direct routes, but will understand if y'all are in more of a hurry. We could also push it back to Thursday and burn it in a day. We have a room in Nelson at the Mountain Hound for Wed-Sat, but I could cancel Wednesday. What say you? We'll completely understand if any or all of you want to do your own thing, but as always we're flexible and open to suggestions. The biggest question in my mind is when were each of you planning on leaving?

So does that mean your stopping in Surrey or coming back to My Vernon for Tues eve? If you think you may be stopping in BC for the night Ill join up with you for that part of the ride. Thats a ride Ive been thinking of doing anyway.
For Monday...Ill make the time to have food and ride with you. Whats your fare of choice? I wont commit Bob but hes retired so unless he has a girlfriend (one of many) to go see or chores to get done Im sure hes in as well.

I'm thinking Surrey is the place to stay over Tuesday night (But it's starting to sound like we need to find a place to meet Tuesday morning for that day's ride to the island). Surrey seems like a good rallying point for a group ride to Nelson. Maybe Celt can suggest a more specific spot.

Great...Sushi it is! We can decide once you get here...maybe we can meet up at in Snohomish, eat and take a ride from there...or we can hang out in a local establishment if your back needs a rest from riding.

The great thing about most sushi places is that they're usually Japanese restaurants and therefore also have teriyaki and tempura, which I love. So there! Before we leave I'll make sure we've all exchanged phone numbers and if nothing else we'll figure out all the details when we get there.

Well if you guys are leaving from Surrey ,you are more than welcome to stay at my place ,sorry no extra beds ,but lots of couches and floor space and safe parking . i,m not sure of your route from Mt Vernon ,but it might be an idea to take the ferry from Anacortes to Sydney(just North of Victoria) on Vancouver island, do your loop , catch the ferry to either Tsawassen or Horseshoe bay ferry terminals and i,ll meet up with you guys there. what you guys think ?.

Like this?
If Bob in Kent, WA, and Zdenko in Sammamish, WA, are joining Freedom and I for the Vancouver Island loop, I wouldn't mind meeting them farther south and taking a different ferry, like this.
As always, we're open to suggestions. It's your territory and you know it better than me.
BTW, what do the ferries cost? I've only ridden on the free ferries in south eastern BC.

the ferry from port Angeles to victoria runs 27.00 now and the ferry from Nanaimo to Vancover is 21.00 now..prices change arround may 20+ and then we can get accurate pricing..I am sure it will go up not down...Anacortes to Sidney is now 21.50 or about 5.50 less than riding arround the gig harbor hwy3 and 101 route. We need to get accurate prices at a later date.

Ferries to BC will be more expensive but if you wanted to get on a ferry from say...Seattle to Bremerton or Edmonds to Kingston its 5.00. Ferry to BC from Anacortes will be about 21.40 (winter fares...summer fares not posted yet). WSDOT ferry faresFrom what I remember the ferry from Anacortes to Sidney only sails twice daily. Early morning and mid or late afternoon. Ferry from Port Angeles has three sailings but then you guys miss the ride thru Kitsap...BUT we could do that on Monday with FJ. The cool part...no reservations needed for motorccyles on BC ferries and with all ferries in Wa motorcycles get to go to the front of the line.

I was thinkin about that one too John ,just couldnt remember the name . Anacortes is not too far from Mt Vernon tho. Bob and Z will know better about the WA ferries to the island . Vancouver to Victoria or Nanaimo and vice versa for motor cycle $35 one way 21 for bike 14 for rider (ahem ripoff) . its also around 1.5 hrs sail time i think. good thing tho is M/Cs get on and off first .heres a link to BC Ferries .i expect it will be more expensive too with upcoming fuel surcharges http://www.bcferries.com/Z ,one cat, one dog,one rabbit, could sort out the tent trailer for ya me thinks , no cats in there ....... mice maybe but no cats .

For any Yanks not registered, FJ & I were trading info. I mailed a cheque, $60 US currency, payable to Mike Gebler a month or so ago. The exchange is about even, although our resident banker Filo may be the one to ask.

Okay, here's the plan as far as Freedom and I know. You're all more than welcome to come along and/or make suggestions. Saturday: Leave Thompson Falls for Mt. Vernon. We don't know if we'll make it in one day or not (probably, though). Sunday: Hang in Mt. Vernon. Monday: Lunch with you guys (Bob? Zdenko? everyone's welcome) somewhere in the Seattle area, to be determined. Tuesday: Rally at some point in the area for the Vancouver Island loop ( something like this). End up in Surrey, BC, at or near Celt's, which is the staging area for departure to Nelson. Wednesday: Ride for Nelson (route to be determined: example 1, example 2). Probably one day but could take two. If'n'y'all can do it in one day, we are open to pushing it back to Thursday (as well as pushing Vancouver Island back to Wednesday). I'm really trying not to plan it all out, but I can't help myself. Questions? Comments?

Dang, I haven't been to Nelson since the last time. Never the Puget Sound route, this has potential to be . The plan sounds tightly knit. Do I need to rejet again to accomodate Litres vs Gallons?? Can I bribe BC customs with pickled herring?? Friar, do we have our stories straight if they ask how long we've known each other again; where & when?? jh

I vote for riding half way if not more to Nelson and finishing the ride on Thursday for registration. I talked to one of my store managers (hes a Canadian) and tells me that there si some good riding and great scenery to enjoy. Itd be a shame to just blow by all of it.

I agree with the scenery thing, and two-lane twisty roads are just more time consuming (not a bad thing). Maybe then we should just plan on heading for Kelowna or Vernon on Wednesday?

Theres a few towns between Surrey and Nelson...wingin it with a plan is fun too.
Wednesday-Thursday travel from Surrey to Nelson sounds good to me, wingin' it sounds even better to me . Snoring?? From someone who's bunked with various county agents with serious snoring issues over the years, earplugs work wonders.
I leave Tuesday-Friday with 450 youth converging on Bozeman, get home Friday afternoon, meet FJ here and head out Saturday morning. Packing for two trips simultaneously

Very weak, very weak indeed. Contractors work better left to their own devices. Besides what about........... ?? I'll have to let Friar handle the details
