Rumor, innuendo, idle speculation? I'm reserving July 18-20 anticipating something will happen in the Bohemian capitol of BC. Triumph hasn't made any official announcements, I believe local rats and the MT chaptor of ba.com will be there?

Personally, I'm booking my holidays for the weekend of July 18-19 in the expectation of the Nelson RAID happening then. We believe Triumph will come through, but local RATs are planning for Plan B. The manager at the Mountain Hound said she call all of her guests from last year as soon as she heard about a date finalized. I guess all the hotel owners/managers know each other up there.

Plan on seeing the Panhandle people there too. Might even run into 'em at the Mountain Hound...

"Wild Bill", the Trophy riding wildman over on Trat, indicated July 18-20 is the weekend. I have an e mail into the New Grand double checking. I'm thinking a pre-ride reconnaissance ride might be in order.
Who are these "panhandle people anyway??

Hi Larry. Let me know if you're interested, but we can reserve and split the cost of a site. Motorcycles are not charged extra like they do with an extra car. The money saved can buy us some adult beverages.

An email i got from the local rat, thought it might be of interest to those going to the kootenay raid. Mike sent this out so just wanted to make sure everyone gets the information. Look forward to seeing you all up at Nelson. Paula Island Rat Info <islandratinfo@shaw.ca> wrote: Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2008 17:11:12 -0800 From: Island Rat Info <islandratinfo@shaw.ca> Subject: 2008 Kootenay Raid To: Island RAT Info <islandratinfo@shaw.ca> CC: Chris Large <clarge@shaw.ca>, Vern Vogt <vwvogt@shaw.ca> Hello All; For those who have been waiting for dates, we have a go for 17/18/19 July. So book your rooms. New Grand Hotel www.newgrandhotel.ca250-352-7211 Toll Free 1-888-722-2258 Fax 250-352-2445 Now for a bit of a back ground on the Raid and the dates. Triumph has done some major internal restructuring. As a result internal planning has not gone as it should have. For instance the 2008 Calendar of events for North America was not slated until February. Prior to the meeting a mid to late August date would be the best case scenario. The Triumph meeting for execs and world wide dealers will be in England across the 18/19 July weekend. As you can appreciate, most people have booked their holidays around the anticipated July dates. So, here is the plan, Danny (owner of the New Grand) had booked the weekend of the 17>19th of July, for our event. So now we are having the Raid as a locally organized event, with a little help from our friends. There will be a banquet, prizes, etc., just like previous years. More on that in a later email. Some assistance we require for now is a design for a T-shirt. Please send your design thoughts to Danny. To register for the Raid contact: Danny Rickaby danny@newgrandhotel.ca T-shirt designs: Danny Rickaby danny@newgrandhotel.ca That is it for now folks, Mike Mike Gebler Island R.A.T. I know I booked a room there last trip for this year.. but when I called to cancel.. they didn't have a reservation for me... I guess.. point of note is to just call and ensure your reservation is there I will be confirming my room closer to the date as well (The New Grand doesn't give out confirmation #'s for reservations.. just FYI) See you all there

Gordie and all; Here's the response I got from Danny at the New Grand. I 've been gone from Thompson Falls since early Monday to Lewistown, MT. A trip which began in a whiteout and ended at Lewistown in -30F (another story). His response below verifies what you said. jh "I’m taking the bull by the horns and saying yes we are going ahead that weekend (July 18-20) however it will not be a sanctioned event as Jim wanted it in August and my replys were that it was not favored. I will organize the dinner beer gardens etc. It would be good to get some help and get our own T-shirt done. The charge will Be $55/person for the weekend and will be payable to Myself. The fee covers rally T-shirt and the prepared Saturday Banquet meal. I will be looking for help to put this together—do you have any suggestions Thanks Danny Rickaby danny@newgrandhotel.caNew Grand Hotel www.newgrandhotel.ca250-352-7211 cell 250-505-3636 Toll Free 1-888-722-2258 Fax 250-352-2445

Here's a good posting of information about the event. It's nice to see that Triumph just stumbled this year rather than write it off completely. Rally update from tr.net.

How are you supposed to get a money order in Canadian funds? Do banks do that sort of thing? I e-mailed them to ask if I can do it with a credit card.

I do not have the capability of processing a Credit Card transaction. All I can suggest is a Bank Money Order or a Postal Money Order. Or as a worst case scenario just send a cheque and we will absorb the transaction costs. They are the only suggestions I have. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Freedom and I are tentatively planning on coming across northern Washington, along Hwy 20 through the Cascades before the Raid. We haven't talked about how much time we're going to spend in the Seattle area but we plan on turning north through Vancouver and back east towards Nelson, along southern BC (roughly). The route isn't fixed and may not be until that time. We're tentatively leaving Thompson Falls, MT, on Saturday the 12th.
Here is a tentative map.

Ya, I led the way a few years ago & got "sidetracked" somewhere outside of Bonners Ferry, ID.
FJ's in charge this year, much better plan as the Pacific ocean is between here and Nelson.
We should be in your area Monday-Tuesday, or is that Sunday-Monday?? Canada's north right? More the merrier

I realize that this is your journey and you are welcome to do whatever. This is my offer if you wish to join me : leave Missoula and use 12 to Clarkston,on to 26 for othello, down to 24 to Yakima and on 410 to Enumclaw to kent. You will be welcome to spend nite here and WE use hwy 101,hwy 3 thru the narrows to Port Angelus, take ferry to Victoria, use canada hwy 1 to Nainamo and ferry to Vancover and pick-up Celt and go east to nelson .I am not raining on your parade but both "Z" and myself are quite a bit south of your planned journey. If you are locked in stone perhaps I could meet you up north or at least when you catch up with Celt..a 1/2 days ride for me.I apologize if you feel I am presumptous!
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

Nah, all ideas are welcome. Keep in mind the map I linked to is just a proposal or a "core" ride. I think we'll have plenty of time for tangents off that route, or complete re-routing of some sections. I wouldn't be adverse to heading south to Kent for a visit - it's not that far out of the way. I also see the Nanaimo leg as optional (I haven't been to Vancouver Island in about 35-38 years).

Now being a responsible banker you don't wander about the institution uttering things like that do you?? It might scare the clients.

I'm sure we can work something out on the route.
