Just put the EZ brackets on - very nice (and thanks eddy for the great service once again).
Thinking about getting a backrest sometime so I can use one of those big backrest bags for a long roadtrip - like the Hells Canyon Rally next June - and I notice the EZ bracket kits are different for with and without the backrest supports. What's the difference? Just the bolt lengths, or the posts too?

I never compared the posts side by side but from what I have seen I think it's just the bolts. The posts sit nice and flush with a back rest but there is a gap under them on bikes I have seen without the back rest leading me to think the posts are the same with or without. Like I said I could be mistaken since I never held them next to each other but have seen both on bikes.

Posts and bolts are different lengths. Call them, they'll sell you the shorter posts just for your bike with the factory backrest for something like $25. That's what I did.

I can not speak to the bolt's length issue but the Sissy Bar/Rack rear mounting post's shoulder measures 17/32" and the standard rear post's shoulder measures 25/32". With no sissy bar in hand I'm guessing that it's bracket fills in the area that follows the curve of the rear fender and that requires a lower profile attachment. edit: FYI: I measured the standard post on my bike with the bag on this morning before coming to work so that could be off 1/32".

Posts are different for the two applications. The rear one is shorter so that the slot alignment matches up with the EB. With the backrest brackets on, it sits out from the bike more and causes mis alignment of the slots the EB sits in. Pat's pictures say it all. eddy
