I have the Battery Tender Plus which came with a small in-line socket to lugs to attach to the battery. It's not very long and I just tuck it behind the black plastic cover over the battery box. I can pull it out and easily connect the charger.

I have fitted my Optimate III SP socket I took the battery cover off and snug it up so the cable runs behind cheese grater and then dangles out, just where the carb adjusters go

It has a sealed end so should be alright, you don't want to be taking seats etc off just to plug it in, the idea is it's suppost to be easy to get at.

Where I have put mine should be sealed by the back of my leg in rain and the heat from the rear of the motor should keep it pretty dry anyway, just in case the rubber splits at some stage.
