Old patterns from the viking era can be really beautiful. I have an idea about adding some to my Triumph America. Hers the project so far:

The gray plate holding the passenger foot pegs makes me think of old soviet union!! I will remove the peg and replace the plate with the blade from this axe. The axe is not an exact historical replica, but I like the chape of the blade.

This pattern comes from an old staff Church from Norway (Urnes). I have sent a request about prices to engrave it on a low profile seat from newbonneville.

Never thought I would get exited over a bag. But having a toolbag like this one would be great!

Im planning to make a fender bib out of this lether belt. But I have to think abou that, the lether might chrink and expand in different wethers, making damage, looking like crap.

(Another idea is to replace the choke knob with a small mjölnir (Thors hammer), but I dont know how to fix it)

what do you think about it, ladies and gentlemen? Will a lether fender bib turn out crappy??

Great ideas, Sven! I really like the axe head peg hangers! If BCC is making a custom lo pro seat for you, you might as well ask them to make the fender bib for you as well. They made a fender bib for me to match my lo pro seat and I'm really happy with it.

...looks like a little bit more of England is up for a bit more rape and pillage !

As a Celt, I'll run up the Cambrian Mountains, paint myself blue and start a male voice choir to sing about it !

Great ideas, Looks good, might take a look at doing something with Celtic designs.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Very nice... and a lot more original than the millions of tribal/flame/skull bikes out there. I'm looking forward to pictures.

FYI if you're talking about Thor's Hammer to us lot in the west you're better off spelling it Mjolnir... we don't have as many characters in our alphabet as you and if you spell it the right way it comes out looking like gibberish to us.

Yea, I have thought about it. Was it expencive? Both the ideas about the blade and the fender bib came out of me having no money to have stuff custom made.

Hahahah Good call. If that seat is expencive some pillaging will for sure come in handy. Celtic patterns are also beautiful. I was thinking about going celtic before I found things I liked in a more scandinavian style. Often I cant tell the difference between the two. The axes are sold both as celtic axes and viking axes. At one place they were sold as viking axes from the 17:th century hahahahah.

Yea, that would be cool. That and some motif paint are projects for the future.

The line between what is really cool and whats too much can be quite thin, or atleast I find it so. I dont want to have images of muscular men with beard and doubble edged axes on the bike. Im trying to be a bit more subtile and only use replicas of items and patterns that were around in that age (I had to swollow my pride about the axe, It fitted to well tecnically).
Im thinking about adding a real size wolfskull replica to it all. That would probably be an accurat viking throphy. But then again, might be a bit too much.

Comments are welcome.
At the moment, I cant make up my mind. The skull is not for free so Im trying to avoid the strategy "buy and try".

You're on the right track. It is definately a close call between cool and too much. I like the wolfskull idea, although I think that life size might be a bit too much. How about a scaled down version on the front fender?, leading the way, so to speak. AND don't forget the Viking horns on your helmet! (just kidding)

I'm with you when it comes to doing stuff without dropping a bundle of cash. The bib was not expensive at all (about $50 US), but I asked for something very simple to match the seat. Any special requests, patterns, designs etc could drive the price up, but you would have to ask the vendor about pricing.

As for the wolfs head- That might take things too far, but if you could find a way to do it tastfully it could be cool. Besides, it's your bike- make it yours and forget what anyone else says!

HAhahah. The horned helmet is a fine example of things I´d rather void.

And, yea, front fender was in my head as well. Dont know If I can get any other size than real size grown up wolf. I´ll put that idea on the shelf for now I guess.

I love your ideas! Of course, this is coming from someone who has added celtic motifs to my bike. (you can see pics in the album section) Your right about the simularities in the artwork. The viking influance on celtic and visa versa has been well documented. If you want to go all out and be historically accurate, that adds to the specialness.
For my bike, I looked into the origions of the city where Triumph first had it's factory. I picked designs that were period to the beginings of that location. AND guess what, there was viking influance in that location. Ok, I'm rambling now.....too much coffee and a love for history...

Next stepp will be the stering handels (is that the correct word??) The stock rubber handles are surely functional but a bit boring. Im thinking about cutting them off and replace them with a black thin lether band. The band would go around the handle serpent wise in some layers. Or... I will make a braide out of letherbands forming a broader band that can go around the handle, covering it all or leaving gaps that chows the metal underneath.

How to prevent the lether from slipping and sliding on the metal surface?? I guess a glue pistol can make it stick.

More picks comming up.. Got to buy some lether bands and learn how to make braids first.

Biggest problem I see there is that leather stretches when wet and shrinks when dry. Maybe apply it very tight when wet and the it will shrink very tightly to the grip but hard to say what would happen if you then hit a rain storm. I love the idea though. I wouldn't mind doing something like that to mine let me know how you make out.

That is a good point! I am afraid the same fenomenon might be a problem for my yet not made fender bib. Perhaps there is a way to make the lether water repellant or something...

Would not be god ending up holding a bunch of lether fringes with glue on in the middle of a ride!

Hers an idea that might allow the lether to shrink and expand a bit without loosing the grip of the cylinder underneath.

So...this is how a happy amateur thinks:

I Cut the stock handles of and replace it with some layers of sturdy tape used for electrical cabels. The tape is preppared with needles with a flat broad head (thoes used on billboards). I make the handle look like Pinhead from the movie hellracer. Needle pointing outwards. I cut the needles, making them less charp and shorter. Then I attach the leter braid, making it go in a serpent around the handle. The needles should not pierce the lether but be in the middle of the braid. If the needle is embedded in the braid but going between the individual lether strings it should be possible for the lether to expand and shrink a bit. The lether is then glued to itself keeping it from falling off.
In short, needles keep the braid from slipping and sliding. Glue keeps it from falling off.

I will sleep on this ide, to see if it seems as good tomorrow as it does at the moment.

What do you people think, will this work??

Sven,
I made some leather fork shrouds as well as leather covers for my clutch and break levers. I haven't had any problems with them while riding in the rain. The leather braids might tend to strech a bit more when wet, but as long as you get it on there good and tight I wouldn't think you would have any problems. Your idea with the needles was pretty innovative, but it might be over-kill! Keep the ideas coming!

Heheheh, thats a touchy subject ;-)

When it comes to bike pimping things are moving on. Got my saddle from new bonneville, I love it! Its better then I expected :-) Will post some pics as soon as I can find the cable to the cam. Toolbag and lether fender bib will come in some weeks too.
Iv sent my tank away to a woman who is great with the airbrush. Two black ravens will be painted on it. Here is the picture. I have given her some artistical freedom to make it fit in as good as possible on the tank. She will also do the birds a bit darker and with smoother greyscales.

what more can be said, Im broke !!!!!!!

Oh that will look nice and goes with the viking theme as well. What were the names of Odin's two ravens again? Quick google check.....Huginn and Muninn. Yes that's right, thought and memory. Very nice.

Thanks :-)

One interpetation of the ravens suggest they, in addition with Odin represent the flow of time. Memory is the past, the thought is about the future. In the middle stands odin, the one that rules things that happens.
