I was hangin out with a buddy of mine tonight and we got to talking about all those folks that stop and talk to me and Karen when we ride. You know...the "I had a Triumph" or the "my first bike was a Triumph" people. Im in the middle of telling him a story about these five older guys in Leavenworth (not the prison...heres a link to http://www.leavenworth.org/) and I just stopped...paused...laughed a bit and went on with my story. He asked me what I chuckled about and I told him I was "that guy".

My first bike is a Triumph! I owned a Triumph (still own but you get my drift right). I am that guy and Karen is that gal!

That is kind of funny. At least you and Karen have started with the best bikes on the planet. What will be funier is if in another 20 years, you end up walking up to some kid that has just bought the latest Triumph and tell him, "ya know, my first bike was a Triumph". Hopefully it will be, "ya know, I have been riding Triumphs for 20 years".

and as if it werent enough, that when we are out rideing and get stopped for the "conversation" we were out to dinner the other night, and Mrs. Newt was wearing a Triumph T-shirt, and now the cook comes out of the kitchen and comes to our table and ask if we ride Triumph, we chuckeled and said yea why, he squats down to eye level and starts telling us of his younger days when he rode Triumph and how much he loved that bike and that he had recently heard that they were available here. i told him about our local dealer with praise and told him to check in here for more info. but my wife and i were laughing about that for a few days. she is used to people comeing over at a gas/potty stop but that was a first

I have a stack of cards from my dealer in my saddle bag for just such an occasion! I get most of my business from customer referrals, so I like to keep the karma going.

True story,

My father-in-law were out ridding today. I was on my 02 HD springer soft tail. We did aobut 100 miles and the weather started getting a little cold, so we started heading for home. I had ot stop by Wal-Mart to pick up some ink for the printer. Well he stayed out side so he could light up a cigar. I came out he was laughing, said 5 or 6 people walked by and talked to him aobut the Thriump, not a one said anything about my HD.. I love that.

I have learned to factor "Triumph Time" into my travel time when I have meetings. There are often folks standing around who want to talk.

I like it when some old boy comes up and starts talking about the old Triumph they used to have. Its become part of the riding experience for me.

I get the Triumph talk a lot. Gotta feel the love from the old trumpet crowd. Once in a while, though, I get asked, "is that a harley?". Still haven't thought of a good enough smart alec reply for that one. Maybe youse guys can help.

AP . Dahlonega , Ga . . Authorities remain baffled at the yet unexplained escalation of old guys in and around this normally quiet hamlet nestled in the foothills . There is some speculation of some impending ethereal event which may explain this phenomena . Local drug stores and nursing facilities are capitalizing on the event , boosting the local economy .

I used to think that too, but I have had several encounters with strangers of the fairer sex who just think it's sooooo pretty.

At my age, I'd rather talk to the old guys..

i have thought many times,,,, if as many people that say that they had a Triumph, actually had a Triumph, then why did Triumph have so hard a time staying alive?? It is funny though, how many people start that conversation with "A Triumph aaah, i had a 196? 70? bla bla bla its incredible how many times i hear that. what is really sad about that is, when you ask them what they are rideing today and most will say "oh no, i havent had a bike in X-yrs. about the only time they say they still ride is at a bike gathering. but if i'm at a pit stop someplace it tends to be "oh i dont ride"
