I wouldn't think a fireball would happen like that in little or no atmosphere and traveling at several hundred miles an hour.

Yeah, didn't they say failure started from a wing breach? Looks like engine area exploded with no bulkhead behind crew cabin area. Edit- found this.

If I recall correctly it was reentering when the malfunction occured. The photo doesn't show any signs of superheating of the heat shield. Looks pretty fake to me.
