Looks like my upcoming wedding is getting more expensive than originally planned, so I'm looking at ways to free up some cash. I'm thinking of selling my 2003 Speedmaster (Red/Black = Fastest), with 12K miles on it. Just had the 12K service. Mods - AI removal kit, Freak installed, Backrest w/luggage rack, Triumph Touring Seat (also original Gunfighter), Short TORs, Nology Coils, After-market coil wires, 55w halogen driving lights in between the fork tubes, Small National Pride screen for summer, LARGE (Full Faring-sized) Plexiglass screen for colder months, large hard saddle bags and Easy-Brackets (not installed), smallish tank bag, large tail pack that fits over backrest. Have pair of small hard saddle-bags that I would include should a buyer want them. Bike isn't showroom perfect, but is still in great condition. Runs like a Sexually Assaulted Simean. Older pics are in my gallery.
What do you folks think would be a fair and decent sales price would be? I appreciate your input.

Let me know what you come up with, I have an old army buddy in Germany right now that I'm trying to find a reasonable America or Speedy for. He's back in the states in July, I could come check it out for him or pick it up and keep till he's home.

Cut back on the wedding .I have so many customers that have sold cars for reasons like that and regret it years later.Just my opinion but you shouldn't have to do that

Sounds to me like you are already wearing your ring where it should not be. Sell the bike to help pay for a wedding?

If you're willing to sell your bike to get married, you shouldn't have had a bike to begin with...regardless of what kind it is.

And so Mike, to answer your question...
I'd give ya 2 cents for that fiancee o' yours.

My wife and mother-in-law tried that crap about how expensive everything would be. I cracked down and micromanaged and we did it for much less that they were looking at!

Cut down on the flowers, ditch the expensive dress, downsize the guest list, make your own cake, and keep the bike!

Michael, it sets a bad precedent. You give up something important to you to make your wife happy. If she's the right one, you'll be together the rest of your lives. Do you think this will be the only time you will be asked to give up something to make her happy? Tell her the extra wedding expenses will bring fleeting joy for one day, and half the guests will be too drunk to remember them. But the motorcycle will bring years of enjoyment together. BA Ladies, any of you want to chime in on this one?

Didn't say I am definitely going to sell the Speedy, just looking at ways to free up some cash, and selling the bike is a possibility (no matter how far-fetched). There are also other avenues of cash generation that I'm considering that I won't expand on at this time. Her folks ARE pitching in, but they aren't rich. We have already pared down a lot of options that brought the cost down from the "Astronomical" category into the "Still Very Expensive" realm. She is important enough to me that I definitely want her to have a Very Memorable Wedding Day, but I really don't want to put the balance on a 'card' and be paying for it for the next 6 years. Kind of a ******-if-I-do-and-******-if-I-don't situation. BTW- SHE doesn't want me to sell the bike so please don't think it's her idea. I just like to know what ALL the options are, and I won't overlook anything if I can help it. Along with the wedding, we are also looking really hard at a few 20+ acre parcels of land to buy. We figure a homestead in the NW Arkansas hills would be pretty sweet. Some of those acres might even be useful as a "Motorcyclist Friendly" campground with an assortment of plumbed cabins and "Pitch a Tent" spots at some point. The "Bikes, Blues and Bar-B-Que Rally" held in NW Arkansas every October is growing larger every year and the accomodations are sparse to say the least. I really appreciate the inputs you all have given, even if they didn't really answer my question. I hope everyone here has a wonderful New Year.

I know it's been said already, ( didn't bother to read the responses, had to put in my $.02) I was stuck in a cage for 11 years for exactly this reason, I thought I couldn't afford the bike and the bills, I wasn't smart enough to say NO! DO NOT GET RID OF YOUR BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. now I've read the whole thread. I still say Don't do it! You're Active Duty, that, in and of itself cuts costs. Base Chapel, NCO Club, Ya see where I'm going w/ this? You can give her an Unforgettable Wedding, especially if Y'all leave the Chapel on your bike!, for little or next to no money. Other than her dress, and the reception, you have no costs, and surely her folks can buy the dress!?! Think long and hard before you give up your bike.

OOPS! My bad for not updating my profile. I retired from the AF last June, and she got out (after 6 years in) last May. Still, using the NCO Club still costs plenty, They are a profit-making entity these days.

Yep! I guess the last thing anybody wants to be known in Vegas as is a "witness", huh Bill?! I'd guess this would especially be a problem with those "old established members" of that community there, huh?!

Hey! If Guido rides(and I really don't care what brand of bike it is, BTW) have him show up there in mid-May TOO!!!
Tell him I'll try to find a place for him in the newly allocated "Non-Farting Section".

So the slippery slope begins...........OK,I'm an old romantic, that being said,,,,,,,she's supposed to be in love with you not "the day" and it is for the both of you,,,,,not all the others who just want another excuse to dress up and/or PARTY. If I was gonna do it again, that woman would know me well enough to be happy get'n hitched with the least amount of fanfare. The day will fade but hopefully your feelings won't. THE BIKE STAYS,,,,,,,other incidental stuff goes!!!

Just saw this thread.
I would never want a man to sell his bike for wedding expenses. The vital question is always are women getting married for the wedding or for the life with her man. The wedding is just one day. Like others have suggested, talk to your Beloved and see where you can cut corners elsewhere. The flowers wilt, the cake gets eaten, the invitiations are peices of paper that get thrown away. It's love, partnership and commitment to one another's happiness that is supposed to be the focal point of a wedding.
(But this is coming from a woman who ended with a man a few years ago who told me he didn't like me riding and wanted me to sell my bike.)

I agree... If a bloke was to 'suggest' I got rid of any of my bikes, I'd get rid of him. The bloke.
I could be wrong, but I suspect you'll feel nice about it in the short term, but a year or so down the line you'll regret it. Then you'll resent her for selling the bike to pay for the wedding. And resentment leads to ill feeling and then..... well I'm not gonna go on. You get the picture.
If she really loves you, she'll marry you regardless of what is spent on the wedding....and yeah, I always thought that the Bride's family was supposed to pay. My dad is happy me and my sisters are not looking at getting married...as there are 3 of us it could end up expensive for him!

Instead of paying a minister, have one of your close friends become ordained online or whatever and do the ceremony and save some bucks there, have an outdoor wedding in a place thats special for you two. In the spring, you wouldnt need to buy flowers. How about wedding cupcakes? You can have a wide variety of flavors, and would probably be way cheaper than a cake.

Tell her you're going to borrow the money for the wedding so it can be your first common debt and it'll be just like a bike payment.

Sorry, I say you shouldn't do it. IF you really love your bike, then it will be a source of resentment later on down the road, say for instance the first time hard financial times come up. Agreed, this is a big day for your bride, BUT from personal experience, my wife would cut my hand off if I tried to sell my bike for any reason (other than no longer wanting to ride). I've actually contemplated it due to financial circumstances, and she's always been the one to forbid it and argue me out of it. IF worse came to worse and you could afford it, go for a title loan or something like that. A lot of those places are iffy, but read the conditions and if they're fair, then you get the money and keep the bike. Just a thought. Whatever you end up doing though, it should be a decision that you BOTH make together. I haven't read the whole thread, but have you broached the subject with your fiancee to see what she thinks about you sacrificing your bike just to pay for a one day fling (the harsh reality is that it is exactly that, a one day fling)?
